Does not always work that way - Say if you depart, work until Dec 31- get your agreed $50K plus any vacation time and sometimes sick time as well
First, you need to realize that I continually use the word "most", because there are no absolutes.
Second, like it or not, most companies establish a total compensation amount for most jobs. Each benefit that incurs a cost will lower the amount you see in the paycheck by the dollar amount of that benefit. If two weeks of vacation has a value of $2000, that will be $2000 less in pay.
You can hope and wish all you want that pay is totally arbitrary and that companies could pay more for labor than the actual value of that labor, but to do so would mean the death of those companies.
Are you talking about undocumented migrant workers?
Most Americans have access to explore over 3M square miles of this earth without the need for a passport. Just because you don't travel out of the country doesn't mean you aren't traveling and enjoying yourself.
I'm guessing when they see the ad for the "free" cable with rhe apartment, the "free" flatscreen with the purchase of the car or the "free" vegetable peeler with an order of steak knives that they are actually getting these items for free. Well, marketing is effective, lol.
Just like weekends, most workers aren't really being paid during their "paid vacations ". What is actually happening is their regular paycheck is drawn across those days. In other words, each regular paycheck is a little less in order to make up for the pay during vacations.
Employers look at total compensation for most positions. For a position on a factory line, they might determine that total compensation might be $50,000. They'll take that amount and then start subtracting out "benefits", which includes things like vacation pay, and once those are all subtracted out, that will be your paycheck pay. The more benefits you receive, the lower your paycheck. This isn't for all jobs, but for most jobs, and it is just a FACT.
Yes, all benefits, including any minute off, reduce wages.

Sixty four percent of the population of the richest and most influential country in the world have never been abroad. Our citizens can be our best diplomats by showing the world who we really are, but we have to leave our own country first.
According to the State Department, there are 113,431,943 valid passports in circulation, which means 36% of Americans own a valid passport (and therefore 64% do not).
This is important because many of us think we have far better working conditions than Europeans. Those that have never been out of the country do not have a clear picture.
But, having a passport is moot because most Americans have no vacation (or cannot afford) to travel overseas.

I had an economics course at UT that had a case study on the downfall of the auto manufacturing industry in Detroit. There were a whole lot of factors that contributed to that collapse. One factor was the contracts with union employees in which benefits never stopped increasing for jobs even without promotion.
Each component made for a car adds value to the final product. The problem was that some parts became more expensive than the value added because the labor exceeded the value. You might have a guy who started working on the line that assembled the drivers door to a car who was making $35k in total compensation. Well, the contract called for his pay to increase x% each year. Since he remained on the line doing the same job, eventually his pay was greater than the value of production. Since there were not enough promotable jobs to move him out of that position or caps on compensation, there was no way to relieve this cost pressure. This was the case for thousands of positions which was a major factor in the auto collapse. The only ways for the auto industry to address this problem were contract negotiations and closing plants. Now you see auto plants in places where they are able to remain union free in hopes of staying away from contracts that raise total compensation above value.
Like I said, there were plenty of other factors, but this was a big one. Once again, math.
A rested worker is a productive worker. It should be mandated that at least 4 weeks a year are given. Can it go over board sure, some countries like the UK went over board such as the three days off for a new pet. But 4 weeks off to spend with family through the year is not only a good idea it would help the company. People who are not treated well are unproductive.
Do you want a job with two weeks of vacation a year? Well, simply apply for jobs where two weeks are granted.
EU unemployment rate 10.3%
Germany has the most leisure time of all (6 weeks paid vacation is average) and unemployment rate is 4.7%.
