There is a background check on internet sales except for private sales like on Facebook. Private sales at gun shows are usually done in the parking lots. What good would increased penalties do, they never catch anyone? They don't even prosecute those who lie on the background checks. None of these ideas would have stopped the mass shootings. They all legally went through the background checks or stole the guns anyway.

I watched much of the debate prior to the vote on the four amendments, this was mentioned. The main provision was anyone denied would be able to challenge it and if successful would have their legal bills paid by the government.

Again, the amendment put forth by the Republicans would have blocked a gun sale to these people for 72 hours and permanently with a court order. It was endorsed by the NRA, the Democrats voted no.

The only way you are going to get legislation passed that will get the support of Republicans and endorsed by the NRA is if it addresses due process. I will also add if it doesn't then it's unlikely it will survive the inevitable challenge in the courts.

We should never compromise our rights and millions won't regardless of what law passes.

so in other words YOU think it is alright for the government to suspend the rights of a citizen EVEN THOUGH that citizen has NOT been convicted of any crime? regardless of whether they have the right to contest the classification in court or not, it is still UNCONSTITUTIONAL to suspend ANY rights of ANY citizen who has NOT been convicted of a crime.

and yes it is still an end run around the constitution, and that alone makes it unconstitutional. sorry but i wont compromise my rights, and neither should you.

Not sure why they keep trying to pass new gun control laws. If anything, gun laws are becoming more and more permissive. It seems like every year another state or two is adding constitutional carry.

People who are pro-gun control are in the minority.

They would need a court hearing within 72 hours or they can acquire a gun, that is not reasonable.

If we need to wait for the NRA to endorse anything we are wasting our time.

Yes some internet sales are regulated but many just facilitate and take no responsibility other than connecting buyers and sellers. Many gun shows have gone to the extent that a gun does not leave without a tag indicating a background check.

There would have to be a national registry. Were all Americans must register their guns.
That is the slipperiest of slopes.
