Its probably already trying to get better via the black market. No doubt the authorities will try to crack down on it. Not kidding either. Socialism amok is not the only way to wreck a country. One South American country , Peru perhaps, had a pretty decent black market going after a structural adjustment from the IMF when crony capital ran amok. .
Small scale social cooperation and black markets between these groups always works well in these situations.
But then being a 3rd world, oil rentier state with a dictator really isn't much of a political system. Its not really socialism per se. Norway was a smart socialist state that took its oil revenue and purchased assets in a sovereign fund. It did not use oil revenue as cheap crack to bribe the populace.
This is why the Greeks and Italians are about always living a bit better than official numbers. Oh I shouldn't stereotype. It happens about anywhere. I have seen figures of around 20% compared to measured GDP's. And when you focus that 20%, and I'd bet it is higher in Venezuela, on the essentials, life might be bearable. For a while...
capitalism is the only real system that actually makes real money, causes growth, causes jobs, and pumps up economies with REAL MONEY. ---SOCIALISM does only one thing; it spends money, ---it can't make it.which is why states in the USA which are run with socialism, are going broke; like Oregon.
Capitalism only creates money via the banking system. And that money is no less 'real'. Otherwise modern money is created centrally. Either through central banks and thin air, or via deficit spending, Congress and/or elected officials.
Capitalism itself cannot create new money otherwise. It can certainly move money around, as that is one major purpose.
All modern money systems are or contain significant socialism. Has to be.
Sadly, I agree. Any way we try to help will be misconstrued as CIA interference. Let the other countries in SA help out.
Unless they specifically ask for our help or input, it's none of our concern. Our reputation in South America is crappy, but we earned it. The Cold War is over, and we don't need to act as a bulwark against communist expansion in the Americas anymore.
So yes...we need to let the Venezuelan people figure out their own solutions.
Even though they are a major part of the problem, I bet the military soon imposes martial law and throws Maduro out. They have the guns and need to save their own illicit gains
So all I have to do is find a barren rock in the middle of the ocean and use a capitalist system and it will thrive.
There is nothing inherently wrong with socialism anymore than there is anything inherently wrong with an insect biologically speaking. The problem is socialism doesn't scale well. There is also a lot more going on than just an economic system in both Venezuela and Finland.
No. You need a rock that has some sort of value.
And socialism has failed every time. The only times socialism doesn't fail is when it allows for capitalist culture and even then the heavy taxes remove a lot of innovation.
