Technically that's what was left after secession; a union of free states and border states. He, and many of us, want to take a union of states and get back to a true republic. Not what's called a republic in name only these days.

There's a lot of ticked off people these days and I don't just mean the trumpeteers. That sit in didn't do congress, not just the democrats, any favors.

I think the US has become unmanagable. But how could it break up? You have states like CA that are powerhouses. CA is the sixth largest world economy - if they seceed while several carriers and submarines are in port they become a naval superpower and along with their air bases are a nuclear power. They have huge military bases.

Same with Texas and Florida and Virginia to an extent.

But numerous other states really have no resources, no ability to defend their borders. Look at AZ or NM they'd be overrun by Mexico with no way to stop it. There are no natural resources to speak of. Who's going to support the deadbeats?

A breakup would cause a refugee migration of unprecedented proportions. What about people born in one state that live in another? The result would be a hundred year depression, probably border wars, mass starvation, etc..

If enough states seriously threatened to succeed from the " union" - the cia or one of the other intelligence networks would stage a phony terror attack the next day. And all the gullible , pathetic, flag-wavers would roll up into the fetal position and succumb.

Sad but true

That's where I stand on this.

A "Blow against the Empire" so to speak.

California is a puny shell of its former self. Don't fool yourself. Have you been paying attention to the current races down there? The state is shedding conservative politicians like never before.

Another housing crisis will destroy the whole state so bad it will prolly never recover. Might as well just hand it over to the Mexicans and let them have fun with it.

Whatever you do....tell congress no bailouts for California....let the Mexicans have it on the condition they take all the current California residents and make them Mexican citizens. Don't let them escape to the other states.....look what they've done to Colorado!!!

Colorado is getting slammed by citizens and illegals from every corner. No need to worry about California, Colorado is quickly out pricing real estate to be the great equalizer.
Just too bad 93% of the violence is committed by hood rats and gangsta rappers from Chicago and LA. It'd be nice to clean house and show the rest of the world how to grow a pair?

Surely you are not of the mindset that leads you believe a few potheads will allow Colorado to sustain a massive housing bubble when all others eventually fail.

There was a time when only one or two states had gambling casinos - now most every state has casinos. There will come a time in the near future when all states will be ripe with the marijuana culture and all the ancillary
businesses that surround it. Colorado may be ahead the game , but special they are not.

Are you kidding? The US military would pull out of any state that seceded. That's the first thing that would happen. I can guarantee you, most of the military stationed in California are not Californians. And that would be true of the US military in any state--if they're not part of the USA, they won't have any DoD presence.

And that would be just as true of any civilian government contractors and manufacturers with significant US government contracts. They would all leave that state--they would have to, because the US government has laws restraining contracts with foreign nations.

A whole lot of businesses, such as banking and insurance, can't suddenly begin essentially "foreign" operations. They'd have to shut down or move out.

I do think we're moving in that direction. Splitting into a few different countries might be (very) hard at first, but I think it could be a very positive move in the long run. We've come to be in a "very bad marriage" type situation here. Sometimes, splitting and moving on is for the best.
