As a conservative:
It is unjust to deprive the masses for the wrongs committed by the few.
One can only tighten legislation to limit or weed out the potential dangers.
I would follow rules similar to that of the Department of Motor Vehicles
and the insurance companies that work in conjunction with the driver.
One must take courses acquire permits and finally a license.
Supply the correct paper work and pass an eye examination.
Pay for a yearly inspection fee, registration fees and insurance policy.
Attend mandated safe gun control courses to keep your skills sharpened.
The longer you own a gun the greater the savings.
Gun possession suspended to those with history of physical violence.
Gun possession denied to those with repeating history of physical violence.
Cars are just as capable of mass killings as guns.
Guns and cars do not kill. It's the idiots that own them.
Removing the idiot removes the propensity for accidents
leading to deaths of innocent lives.
Nuff said.
The innocent always pay a price because of scammers and criminals. We are always losing our rights because of them and now liberals want us to lose yet another right that won't solve the problem. We used to be able to do so much without a care but not so much now. It is very different from when I was younger.
Criminals have always been among us but it is much worse now. What has caused the change?

Maybe it's because the inmates are now running the asylum?
We as a society has to admit we have a huge mental health situation in this country. Ironic how we try to resolve problems with quick fixes that do not work, and even worse, our society is unable to recognize that our politicians are putting quick fixes in place just to appease their voters....which doesn't really do a think except promote more votes for that politician. We have regressed as a society instead of progressed....half the people in this country only vote for their party and don't care about anything else....but love to complain.
you won't fix anything unless you start to realize that the mental health issue in this country is out of hand. And anyone who wants to believe that crime is down better speak to our police.....
Crime is not down, and it has gotten worse.
taking guns away will not fix the problem.....
not to mention there are several factors involved in this issue and not just one. For instance, stop allowing anyone and their brother into this country.
stop believing that taking guns away will fix the problem.....
we have people in this country who do not recognize our laws....who think that rape and murdering others for gain, is the way to live.

You guys keep repeating this again and again hoping that the simple minded will begin to believe it.
The reality of course is that no single thing will help solve this problem.
It will require a multi-pronged effort, just a part of which is restricting access to weapons of mass lethality. You can pretend all day long that this isn't part of the solution but that doesn't make it true.
I'd argue that the premise of the OP's question is false - he ASSUMES that "conservatives" want to reduce mass shootings. As least for the extreme fringe gun-whacks, the reality is that they couldn't care less about reducing mass shootings - as long as they have completely unfettered access to all guns, any guns, all the time. In their minds, the bloodshed that having those weapons proliferated as widely as possible enables is a small price to pay to exercise their "rights". They will never admit this, but it is obvious.
Gun laws won't change in the next year, 5 years or 10 years, we will surely continue to rack up the score with mass shootings. But in 20-50 years as Millenials and those born in the Information Age dominate the political landscape - this is going to change.

You already know the only solution so what's stopping you? You must change the 2nd amendment.
How you put it is binary. We either have firearms or we do not. It doesn't work that way and will be resistance for anyone that tries it. Given the choice you think we should have, which isn't a choice then ya, it is a small price to keep a right.
Force fathers to love their children
Just try and make that happen right ?
But considering that any mass shooter ( or any mass serial killer ) you care name was void a loving relationship with their father it is amazing to me we are so perplexed .
We should have figured something was up with that when Hitler & Stalin came on the scene .
Unfortunately from a societal standpoint the caring functional father ship sailed at least 50 years ago .
They are considered useless in any capacity but sperm donors today .
And we continue to wonder why we are in worse shape everyday .
Plenty of ways to kill besides guns as crowds being run down with rental trucks have shown .
We are blind men fumbling in the dark for a black dog that is not there on this one .
Because we like it that way .
