Say tomorrow America were to completely abandon every foreign base it has and were to completely stop getting involved in any foriegn affairs whatsoever, what would it mean, and do you think it wouldn be a good or bad thing?
There would definitely be trade ramifications and lost equipment and dollars as we lease those bases.
Logistically it would be a nightmare.
Long term, it may turn into a beautiful thing.
It truly is ridiculous on so many levels.
Some of these bases/buildings/facilities are leased and we have treaties to protect those countries. We are practically not only paying some of these countries for the right to protect them, we then need more money for the military to be everywhere, so we can rack up a bigger national debt, while they spend more money on their own people.
I heard a Hillary supporter say that we shouldn't eliminate any bases, because it would hurt the local economies in those foreign countries as our service personnel spend so much money in those local economies. WTF! The Democrats use to be more likely to want to reduce these.

We have NO right to meddle in the affairs of foreign nations in any way. We have no right nor any rationale for having them. These are giveaways from the elite for the elite. So money aside, none of it should exist anyway.
But it would save us a fortune and it would make the world hate us that much less. The "war business" has no place in a "civilization". The Bankers and the omnipotent financier class have enough scams to plunder us at will, they don't need the military and the wars too...
i dont see it as being an advantage for us, short term or long term. in the short term it means much higher unemployment, since we no longer need the large military. and long term it means more belligerents pushing to get their way in europe and other places around the world, increasing tensions, and perhaps leading to world war three. which mean the US would end up getting involved in that war, and it would be very destructive for the world.
What a great idea....until the next time a group of US citizens are kidnapped and held hostage in a country on the other side of the planet. And the POUS is told... We can't get there for about a week, Sir, because we don't have any assets anywhere close to country X. And we can't get a refuel at country Y because they don't let us land there anymore.
Of course, maybe the people of the USA are going to be OK with that situation.....Somehow I don't think so.
The concept is somewhat appealing, but the reality is not nearly so inviting.
I agree. Short term it would be a wreck for us, just logistically. But long term....
Yes, a severe alcoholic who quits cold turkey is going to have some nasty withdrawal symptoms.
But in the long run, he'll have done his body a huge favor and saved his own life.
