I'm sure there will be those saying "why did she have to shoot him? couldn't she just keep him at gun point till the cops arrived?"
Someone DID say that it another thread where it came up. Anti gun nuts always defend the criminal over the law abiding citizen.

This is that loophole, someone can legally purchase a gun, and then turn around and sell it to another private party that cannot purchase guns. This in itself makes background checks basically useless. This is what I would like to see fixed.
That's not a loophole. That's a deliberate acknowledgement by non-authoritarian, freedom-loving representatives I elected that individuals have a natural law right to sell firearms to others.

That is a big problem. You may not care that the gun you sold is used to kill toddlers but I do. I agree with the other poster that the regulations need to be Federal and maybe guns can be tracked to the owner or original owner so if they sell illegally to another who then uses that gun to kill said toddlers - than the original owner is brought up on terrorist and murder charges. Gun owners need to be held accountable and be in charge of their killing machines.

Oh, here is a breaking announcement from the Supreme Court. Step in the right direction! http://bipartisanreport.com/2016/06/...-ruling-video/

The Supreme Court of the United States has finally ruled on an issue mentioned in the October 2015 syllabus, and first argued in February of 2016. The decision ruled that people convicted of any domestic abuse crimes can no longer legally own firearms.

How in the world would you monitor private sales?

You'd be OK then shutting down all swimming pools where so many more toddlers are killed than guns.

There are risks with everything you do.

And then we stop the private sales of cars. More children die in car wrecks by far.

Though with that said, that has nothing to do with this story which is a woman who legally self defended her family and herself. Nothing wrong with that.

We do! It is called the 2nd Amendment.

I was not aware that swimming pools and cars were built as machines who's sole purpose is to kill. I bet the terrorists are collecting swimming pools so they can go to the local mall and drown innocent people!!! Besides, think about the difference between firearms and cars or swimming pools. Hint: it is a big difference and not comparable.
