Should Muslims worldwide abandon sharia and other strict forms of Islam for the greater good? (school, terrorism)

I believe if Muslims worldwide took a stand against any and all strict forms of Islam, it would help curb terrorism.

replace sharia law with a women's rights movement. replace honor killings with building more schools and lifting literacy rates. replace vitriolic hatred, self-victimization and punishment with sermons of EQUALITY for all.

in many Islamic countries, the most violent form of Islam is being taught in parallel with a huge uptick in terrorism.

The strict forms of Islam is Islam. The "good" Muslims that are celebrated in the US are thought of by other Muslims as apostates.

That would be a step in the right direction IF they practice what they say and not inside their homes preach hate against gays, jews, etc.

PURE Islam is just as ridiculous as PURE Christianity and even more dangerous. It is possible to be a peaceful, law abiding, kind and helpful person without resorting to some mythical father figure to punish the nonbelievers.

but I mean you don't see anyone smiting their neighbor on the Sabbath because he's not observing - like the bible calls for.

at some point, you can't teach it's literal meaning. those books were written during times when barbarians and savagery were the norm.

The OT is not authoritative in terms of personal behavior. The NT is and its completely pacifist and almost absurdly so.

Hence there is no smiting....

Old Yeller may have been chasing rabbits at one time, but at the end he went rabid and had to be shot. Old Yeller is gone.

The bible does not teach anyone to strike anyone unless one reads Old Yeller while thinking Old Yeller yet lives.

You can say that about nearly any religion that has a extremely religious subgroup. Might as well say all religions should become secular and move to the far left. Maybe the entire planet should become atheists (never mind as there extreme nutjobs there too)

The only reason people notice Muslims strictness is because the bright light is focused on them currently. Anyone who has been to a extremely strict parochial school or a yeshiva knows exactly what I'm typing and knows what happens behind closed doors.
