If you look at the data, the ultra rich are already a protected aristocracy. That really doesn't change under Democrats or Republicans. Both of the people running for office are multi-millionaires, and the guy who is really beating the populist drum right now is one of the ultra rich aristocracy himself...how's that for ironic?

Protection of property is a RIGHT under the constitution. Property includes intellectual property.

There is no point to the OP's question other than as a jumping off point for a rant against conservatism.

The only right-wing authoritarians in American are the "left" and "right", "liberal" and "conservative", people who use government force as a "legitimate" form of aggression and violence to enslave their neighbor. Real liberals, ie libertarians, agorists, anarchists, obey the non-aggression principle. "Our" government operates ONLY to initiate force against the individual and to destroy natural human freedoms. Who would write the "laws" "governing" human interaction, LOL? People entering into voluntary agreements with one another.

As it is now, "we" enter into "agreements" only at the end of the barrel of a government gun...

Government can be as big and as powerful as can be imagined and still be moral. IF its ONLY role is as a RETALIATORY force against those who INITIATE force upon others.

No person, group, or government ever has a right to initiate force upon any person, group, or government for any reason.

Live and let live.

And if you want to fix "income inequality" and end the perpetual human slavery to the super elite, it is simple (theoretically)

Abolish fiat currency

Abolish usury

Abolish partial reserve "banking"

Until you do that....NOTHING will make any difference in the least...

Your stance on this is that government should make laws to help the little guys like Tesla (which is in fact not very "little".

Our stance is that government should not have the power to make a law barring entry into a market. That way the powerful lobby for the auto dealerships has no real power. They can't stop the sale of new cars over the internet and having them delivered to your door. That is progress and I can't wait until they offer 2nd day "prime" delivery.

The OP should be focusing on the role that government plays in regulating businesses in the first place. Keep government OUT of regulating businesses and picking winners and losers and there will be NO REASON for LOBBYISTS!!

Microsoft is a perfect example of the creation of crony capitalism. Before the DOJ case against MSFT by the Clinton administration. MSFT was busy building a business and was not creating a DC office full of lobbyists that were greasing the palms of the political class.

Gates learned the hard way that the only way he was going to be able to run MSFT was to get in bed with the government by paying them off and using lobbyists to gain access and benefits from the government.

THAT is the problem people, NOT a free market.

And certainly, no argument that our tax system is flawed. A goody and kind of stupid as Rand Paul's little commercial about putting the tax code in a wood chipper was, his point is one I agree with. The tax code should not need to be as long as it is. But even if their are complexities and 'loopholes' for people in all tax brackets, it remains nearly impossible to deny that people on the very top have a disproportionate amount of benefits when compared to every other tax bracket.

And yet, it is the left who cries foul when an option to get rid of the tax code and the loopholes and replace it with a straight percentage like 10% across the board.

THAT would mean poor people would have to actually PAY into the system they cry!!!! That is not fair because the Wealthy would not have to pay (percentage wise) the same as the poor!!!

In reality, a flat tax would likely mean that the wealthier would indeed end up paying more because of the loss of all the exceptions in the current tax code.

The truth is, the envy class needs the wealthy to blame everything in life on and if there was true "equality" with regard to the tax code, it would result in the end of wealth redistribution and that would lead to people no longer getting something for nothing from the political class.

Amen to this and the other poster's position on the 16th Amendment, both of which were the brain children of progressive administrations and both of which resulted in a concentration of power and corruption in DC!

It truly seems many can only think incrementally these days, and incrementalism is what has led to gov creep.

I don't hate the government. It's not evil. It's extremely inefficient as currently set up.

Besides the irs, I'd like to:

1. A pres candidate cannot declare until December 31 before the election year. 10 primaries a month for 5 months. This eliminates almost 16 months of election cycle bs
2. Repeal the 17th amendment. This eliminates money into senators pocket
3. Term limit the house to 3 consecutive terms (6 years in a row is enough)
4. Cap Supreme Court appointments to 20 years
5. Eliminate the lifetime benefit of congress
6. Repeal the war powers act
7. Pass an amendment that any force must require a declaration of war (that is a compromise because I understand the need for some flexibility but it's been so over used I'd like them to start back from scratch)
8. Petition to sunset nato
9. Abolish the TSA
10. Abolish homeland security

Please PM me your name so I can write it in for President. If you ever run for office, I will happily donate to your campaign!

People in cities like NYC, Chicago, etc would hate that because it takes away their extra influence over the rest of the state. Having the house select the senate members serves the same purpose as the electoral college by keeping all the power in the population centers.

If it weren't for the electoral college, candidates would only pay attention to what the people of about a dozen cities want and ignore the rest of the country.

The founders understood this.

Our politicians will go along with the plan to regulate away a business's competition because they get big kick backs, but they also get to sell exemptions to the new rules to everyone that is supposed to comply with them.

The answer to government corruption is never more of the same corrupt government.
EXACTLY! The government created the monster of which the poster loathes.

Get government out of business and you get business out of the government.

The vision of the founders was NOT the creation of massive legislation by career politicians!!! The intent was for citizens to take office temporarily and then return to their original profession. On that basis, the founders noted that no legislature would pass that would damage businesses because that was and always would be the livelihood of those temporary holding office.

In fact, our congress never met year round initially so that those in congress could get home and tend to their occupations!
