An infant? No, they dont understand why it is wrong. A child, just like a grown woman, should know not to go around assaulting people, and if they decide to do it anyway, then i care not what happens to them. If they dont bother anyone, they wouldnt have to worry about consequences.

Infant perhaps would not spit on somebody, on purpose at least. If the woman had aids, then what?

She can face aggravated assault for spitting at police officer. Fair or not fair, well, it is what it is.
Just touching somebody is considered assault. Unwanted non-sexual physical contact can be argued, successfully, as assault. So if you had an argument with me and you wouldn't shut up, I walk away and you grab my arm and I give you a broken nose that knocked you on the ground, you're the one that's ok for getting charged with assault? You assaulted me, and I was just defending myself, and that's ok is what you're basically saying
