Authoritarian. So he can join either of the authoritarian groups in this country as they are basically identical. "Left" and "right" in this country are both far right-wing authoritarians.
Sounds more like an authoritarian nationalist... fascist.

Hah... perfect timing
Agree to agree, except it's ridiculous to call both left and right far right. They are what they are, they only hide behind one or the other party-wise. In fact, progressives on both sides are simply totalitarian/authoritarian communist hybrids... and there are a lot more hiding behind the liberal moniker.

Please... the taxation half of it sounds like Hillary.
His friend is the worst of both sides, with a very little pinch of sense mixed in for flavor. His is an openly regressive political recipe.

Anyone who condones initiations of force upon the individual by the use of aggression and violence to impose their will upon others is a far right authoritarian. Both "left" and "right", "liberal" and "conservative" use government violence and aggression to impose their personal will upon the individual. There are no "progressives" on either side and there are no "liberals" to be found in either party. They are all regressives seeking to implement their personal form of tyranny upon everyone else with government aggression.
The only progressives or liberals in this country are the small minority of philosophically pure libertarians (not the Libertarian Party necessarily, as some of their members do not obey the non-aggression principle in every stance.) who seek only to maximize freedom for every human being while obeying the non-aggression principle.
I was speaking with a guy I've known for a while. We started talking about politics, and he seems to have a pretty weird ideology. This is pretty much what he said
"I'm extremely socially conservative (I'd stand for traditional morality. There'd be decency laws. no gay marriage or abortion. I support a return to traditional gender roles. I'd end affirmative action, and deport all illegal immigrants. I'd end all legal immigration until the unemployment rate is below 2%) I'm an Isolationist on foreign policy, and a Protectiinist on trade. Fiscally, I'm very similar to Huey Long. There'd be single-payer healthcare, incomes would be capped at 12 million a year, there'd be a progressive tax system with 0% being the lowest rate, and 50% being the highest. ones net worth could not exceed 1 billion, there would be a 50% tax on inheritances larger than 5 million. Great emphasis would be put on getting our nation out of debt. The public schools would adopt a classical Great Books curriculum, with a huge emphasis on Western culture. So I'm very socially conservative, but very Liberal fiscally."
This seemed very strange to me. I'm a Pat Buchanan style Paleoconservative. I told my friend that I certainly agreed with him on social issues, foreign policy, and trade, but that's it. I don't understand how a guy could be so conservative socially, and so Liberal fiscally. What's his ideology called?
Well that's an interesting combination of things.
Based on those social issues, I see extreme traditionalism (rigid, in fact) mixed with intense nationalism. He obviously pointed out isolationist as well. He also opposes free trade. At this point, minus the extreme traditionalism, your friend might be Donald Trump. Economically though, he's farther to the left than Bernie Sanders, or so it sounds.
So... yeah. If you're friend was a little more anti-Semitic, I might just ask if he's Hitler. He's seems to describe many things that are highly reminiscent of the totalitarian fascism that existed in Germany. Aside from the lack of hatred of any specific cultural minority and the absence of imperialism, it seems to have the same socially-conservative (basically reactionary) nationalism of the Nazis, as well as the level of blending private and public sectors, though closer resembling traditional socialism (which Hitler opposed, despite how similar they were).
Is he Catholic by chance? There's some traditional Catholic political views that's very socially conservative but very supportive of socialist economic policy. I can't remember what the name of that was called though.

I think what you are describing is known as Christian democracy. Examples of this political philosophy in the United States are almost non-existent.
