Then why is overturning same sex marriage currently a part of the Republican platform?

I think you're right.

And I don't think that amendment would win either.

Well, according to the Republican Party, this is part of their current platform -

"We recognize and honor the courageous efforts of those who bear the many burdens of parenting alone, even as we believe that marriage, the union of one man and one woman must be upheld as the national standard, a goal to stand for, encourage, and promote through laws governing marriage."

https://gop.com/platform/renewing-american-values/

The question is whether they're going to change it. The NYT is reporting that the current draft language is

"Our laws and our government’s regulations should recognize marriage as the union of one man and one woman and actively promote married family life as the basis of a stable and prosperous society. For that reason, as explained elsewhere in the platform, we do not accept the Supreme Court’s redefinition of marriage and we urge its reversal, whether through judicial reconsideration or a constitutional amendment returning control over marriage to states.â€"

Republican legislators will be introducing a bill that will legalize discrimination against LGBT citizens by businesses and individuals based on one's religious beliefs. The bill will be introduced on July 12th, the month anniversary of the Orlando massacre at a gay nightclub.

Multiple sources are reporting a major Republican Party platform will endorse passing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to outlaw same sex marriages throughout all 50 states. This contradicts the claim of some Republican politicians who have stated that each state should decide it's own laws concerning same sex marriage. Sen. Ted Cruz (R - Texas) has already drafted a bill to begin the passage of a constitutional amendment limiting marriage to opposite sex individuals.
I don't doubt what you said is true but it's not something that Trump or any organized Republican effort would initiate changing anything. I consider this some scraps tossed....Dems do the same to their extremists.

Thats the exact same position both Clinton, and Obama held just a few short years ago.

Tony Perkins Successfully Introduces Plank Supporting Anti-LGBT Conversion Therapy Into GOP Platform - The New Civil Rights Movement

"Earlier Monday morning subcommittees voted for amendments that call for to the Bible being taught in schools, and transgender people to use the restroom of the gender they were assigned at birth, and voted to keep a call for a ban on same-sex marriage in their 2016 national platform."

Alrighty, we're getting down to the nitty gritty.

GOP is now officially on record as supporting universal background checks for persons using restrooms while opposing background checks for persons buying AR-15s.
I can't shake the visual of how this would work in our local Walmart.
