If you have a plan with your wireless company, an iPhone isn't an overly expensive purchase. I got mine for $100 and it wasn't an old one (it is now, that was 3 years ago, and it still works so I'd say it was $100 well spent).
Laws may have changed in past two years but previously to have Section 8 tenants, the landlord had to have a home/apartment that is up to current code. There's no 'grandfathering' in Section 8.
The way to avoid Section 8 tenants is to not meet current code. That doesn't mean you have a slum. Codes change and the electrical code is notorious for having 'trendy' changes that sometimes get removed in future revisions.
Not all landlord dislike Section 8 tenants (rent does get paid) and not all tenants are welfare queens. Many are single parents who live quietly in order to provide a decent home for their children, and may not complain about anything even when they have legitimate housing defects.
As a person paying more than half my income for shelter, I have a right to be outraged.
Please explain why people with more income should get a 20% or greater rent subsidy while 11 million pay at least half their income for shelter while getting no subsidy.
And people wonder why Bernie Sanders got so many votes.....Sounds like the Hummer queen is among them
As a landlord in Cook County Illinois, I am prohibited by law from discriminating against someone who uses Section 8 to pay rent.
Basically, I'm required to accept it.
Also, in this particular town, since I don't live in Cook County, I am required to have a representative that DOES live in Cook County and provide their driver's license number, phone & home address to the city.

I know. It's just awful that Chuckity can't discriminate against poor people who have a guaranteed means of paying their rent
So much for the highly vaunted work ethic. I'm a tax slave and a rent slave.
I planned my life better than did you.
Started with nothing. Lived in a Chicago area rental dive that didn't heat above 59 degrees in winter. Worked my way out and above. If I can start with nothing and do it, so can anyone else.
Qualifying for Section 8 doesn't mean a person "Can't pay their own rent."
No, not really. The Section 8 "Low Income Limit" for King County, WA (As an example, since OP appears to live in that area) is $65,800/yr.
On $65k/yr one can afford $13/mo for a phone, $10k for a car, and a few hundred bucks for a TV.
I guess not everyone can think critically. If you can't afford to pay all of your own rent, then you can't afford to have luxuries... Many tax payers go without such luxuries paying into a system that props these LOSERS you seem to be so fond of up with tax payer funded money, while they ride a bus because they can't afford a car, let alone a Hummer, regardless of the year, etc.
I really think it would be helpful if the apologists post their income. I've posted mine, why don't you post yours? I bet I pay more in taxes than you GROSS, lol. But keep apologizing for the losers....
I have never liked section 8. I saw how the places looked when the tenants moved out. It was thousands worth of damage.
