You can't run a country on a large safety net. You run a country producing products and selling products. The more people are working, the more they provide for themselves with the goal creating their own safety net.
And far more people are working in Northern Europe with the strongest social safety net. In America, huge numbers of people are not working. You deny reality. A safety net does not mean people dont work! A country that does not care about its citizens will create a society of anger, bitterness, despair, human suffering and wasted human talent. When you dont believe your elected officials should represent your interests but the interests of the rich and the powerful, you are shooting yourself in the foot.

The fact that you dont believe in public roads, public schools, public parks, public libraries etc etc etc and believe it is evil socialism funded by taking money from the rich shows how deep brainwashing can be even in so-called "free and open societies".

Norway is not a well-run socialist country. North Korea is.

Enjoy!!
So I listened to the video - didn't hear much socialism.

A government that provides services is not socialism.

Sounds like most of their population works. Why? Is the government making them work, or are they freely pursuing their interests? Sounded like they are free to pursue their interests.

They have their own land and houses. That's not socialism.

More people ride public transportation. OK. That's their culture. Local government provides a service. That's not socialism.

Their work is more manual than the US. Minimum wage at $25/hr. How much to products cost over there in comparison to products in the US?

I think you have a different idea of socialism than I do, because there wasn't much in the video.

This whole thread is about how a national health care system, much stronger social security system and tuition free public colleges are evil socialism that causes laziness and a bad economy!

Do you support social democracy or do you not support it? Do you support a national health care system? Or is it evil socialism?

National Health Care is the standard in the rest of the civilized world.

Affordable or free college is the standard in the civilized world. IN America college is a business to scam students.

The reason people are working/not-working has zero to do with a safety net. The reason people work or don't work has to do with economics, taxes, land availability, government regulations, etc. You guys want to keep comparing the US to these tiny European nations. We are different.

Just like Julian658, I think you are mistaken about what true socialism is. You don't have elected officials in socialism... or if you do, it's "vote for me, or else..."

Caring about people does not mean equal outcome, because everyone is different... some work harder than others... some have higher goals than others. Caring about people should be about equal opportunity for all to achieve what they want... otherwise known as the pursuit of happiness. Millions of people immigrated (legally) here for what? Outcome? No... opportunity to be free to pursue their own interests.

Yes, you think socialism is communism.

Good socialism is whatever works to create a more prosperous lifestyle for the citizens. And that often includes a component of capitalism.

I am assuming you will not get Medicare or social security when you retire because that is socialism and you want to preserve your freedom.

I also assume you sent your kids to private schools from K-12 and have never driven your car in the highways. That is also socialism!

They are socialists with free college tuition and free health care.

They work shorter hours than you do.

They enjoy leisure more than you do.

They have more freedom than you!
