Judging science literacy from a panel on the Larry Wilmore show, seriously?
A lot of liberals, particularly young ones, like his show. The audience seemed to enjoy the 'who cares' talk. The issues of science in politics is hugely important and any example of anti-science rhetoric should be talked about, no matter the source, but especially one if that plenty of people watch.
You are almost ONE YEAR LATE in catching on to this "news".
There have been NUMEROUS articles and posts from liberals bashing Larry Wilmore for his treatment of Bill Nye. In fact, the bashing got so loud Wilmore actually did a follow-up episode where he invited Nye back to his show.
Larry Wilmore himself had endured almost a YEAR of defending himself.
Many, many bloggers and critics have already debated this thing to death.
I wasn't presenting it as news. I was presenting a problem that I feel still exists; a lack of interest in, or even respect for, science. This sort of thing has always existed on the right (no, I'm not saying everyone on the right is like this, BUT historically, those who strongly oppose science tend to be more "conservative"), but it's spreading into the left.
The topic I'm presenting is really only being introduced by this segment on Wilmore's show, it being by far the most obvious example of the issue. But this is about science and it's role in society. You're free to bring up other examples like this. Or if you feel this sort of thing is not common and is rejected by most people, you're free to present points for that too.
Liberals can be frustratingly anti-science, especially with the vaxers and the anti-GMO crowd. Not to the level that conservatives are, but there are some issues where politics trump science - - and it is annoying no matter which side it comes from.
I don't think most liberals want to ban GMOs, just for that to be disclosed on food labelling so consumers can have a choice.
The anti-vaxxer nuts though...totally with you on that one.

Some people do want to ban GMOs. I'm also fairly certain some countries have banned them. Not that I'm mistaking some fringe Americans who want to ban them as being mainstream, it won't take much to get them into the mainstream if other countries have done what they want.
But even so, the lack of understanding on what a GMO food actually is would negatively impact the sales of GM foods if they are labeled. Not that I totally oppose labeling; I do think consumers have a right to know what they're eating, though it's really not that hard to find out if something is GM or not as it is. Never the less, this issue is highly dependent on scientific literacy. I think many people will assume that because GMO's have been labeled, it's meant as a warning and we should steer clear. If this happens, investing in future GM technology could be slowed, which hurts us in the long run.

A half million children are going blind every year and another half million die thanks, in large part, to the anti-gmo nuts. Of course they brown and black so who cares. Let us make sure white people can read the labels.
My wife is filipino nothing pisses me off more than the anti-gmo nuts who are catching up with Hitler when it comes to causing death on a massive scale.

While you are looking at a year old tv show that was hammered by the left for its actions, people on the right are denying science in multiple ways.....with no one batting a eye. I think the response this show got back then for it kinda makes the difference clear.

15000 children who went blind today won't be able to read this.
15000 black and brown mothers buried their children today thanks to anti-gmo nuts.

And thats relevant to what I said how exactly? What EXACTLY do you believe my views are about anti-gmo idiots? Well you can probably guess from that sentence.
Go troll elsewhere.
