We've been there for 13 years and have spent nearly 2 trillion dollars. Iraq can't survive on its own and the government isn't strong enough to fend off rebel forces. There is no "squashing" them out and leaving, as they will simply rise up again like we've already seen. You either let the Iraq be what it instrinically is, or you force it into being somewhat of a democracy (but still with many insurgents and IEDs) by keeping our troops there for at least the next 50 years and paying tens of trillions of dollars to do so. Is our hard earned tax dollars worth a militarized democracy for the Middle East, or should we just fight terrorism here at home with greater intelligence and policing, and focus on reducing our debt?
multiple threads, same post: withdraw all troops from overseas, rescind the war powers act, withdraw from nato, only force that can be utilized is via a formal declaration of war by Congress (no 'authorization of force).
One can't 'win' a fight that isn't total war, therefore, don't fight at all.
Iraq is an artificial country whose borders were drawn up the the British and French after World War I with out any regard to the inhabitants. It's time to face reality, and let Iraq break up into the 3 nations it really is: Kurdistan, a Sunni west and north, and a Shia south and central. Perhaps they could enter into some kind of economic union, a simpler, smaller version of the EU. If this were to happen, and each dominant group felt secure in their area, then I think support for extremist groups like ISIS would evaporate. A Shia dominated central and southern Iraq will naturally align itself with Iran. The United States really has no reason to oppose this. Shia Islam is no threat to the United States or the west in general. There are no Shia groups that want to export jihad to the west. All the Islamic extremism comes from Sunni Islam. We would actually get a bonus by supporting this sort of breakup, as an independent Kurdistan would be a thorn in the side of Iran and Turkey and the Kurds are the most pro-American people in the middle east outside of Israel.
Nope not OK with it at all. Not OK with burying my friends killed overseas in those ****holes either. Not OK feeling twinges of guilt on Father's day when I think of my friends children who do not have a Father to celebrate. Not happy with past Presidents getting us into the mess and certainly not happy with the current one keeping us there.

Or other countries are left to deal with the consequences:
What does our OK has to do anything?
Our OK or NOT OK doesn't change a ####.
