The statement was that NICS doesn't work now you are presenting a different argument The number who are denied a license is closer to 80,000 and the point you are missing is that their application never gets into the system. Dealers are told to immediately turn away an applicant if they acknowledge a past conviction, applicants that lie on the application that travels through the federal system are in fact prosecuted but it is a very small number, around 40 in the year referenced in the article below.

Putting that aside 80,000 are prevented from getting a gun so the system does work.

Attached argument is exactly what Kelly Ayotte brought up.

Except that you can't prove that they didn't purchase a gun through other means ( and it is a fact that this happens). Your rules are useless.

No question some get guns from other sources but using that logic a rather large number of laws are useless. Tough to prove what is an unknown but is undeniable that the law prevents felons and others from gun ownership. I guess they could always go to a relative or one of the other loopholes like online sales that some so ardently support, or we could have real reform.

When has the govt ever eliminated loopholes? You are living in fantasy land to think they can eliminate a blackmarket. Case in point: drugs and contraband are freely availiable in the prison system.
The law can make black marketeers richer though. Ever heard of Al Capone?

Define "real reform"

Some very interesting reading here. I am for the 2nd Amendment. As it as oft been stated-Lose this and only criminals will have guns and many do. Honest people go through Hades and criminals buy firearms so easily. If someone wants a firearm it will be obtained.

If a person is so dangerous that we don't trust them with a firearm, why do we even let that person walk outside of prison or hospital?

Instead, we spend billions on background check while the bad guys are happily running around, raping and murdering people with and without guns.
I suppose we can hand a gun to every illegal, refugee, and felon.

And isn't that exactly the same with the oath keepers and other idiot groups? They want the constitution to be interpreted the way that favors them.
