1. Why are we even in Syria?
2. Did we communicate to the Russians that we had that base there so they could avoid targeting it?

"We" don't even have a base there. The thread title is a lie.

That was actually a base named USS Pueblo and those Russian jets got lost on their way to the Gulf of Tonkin.

Grow the heck up! If you're loitering in a combat zone for no good purpose without permission of the host country.......you're gonna suffer casualties.

Cripes; you folks virtually wrote the book on every inadvertent shelling/bombing of friendlies much less battle engagement collateral damage.

Just curious... why would one blame Congress on Syria when it is a Presidential order?

We don't. Don't be so gullible.

Hey, everyone remember what President Reagan did in April 1983 when Iranian proxies in Lebanon blew up the American embassy in Beirut?
Nothing.

Or what he did in September of that year when the USSR shot down KAL 007, killing 269 people - 62 of whom were Americans, including a sitting Republican Congressman (Larry McDonald - Georgia)?
Nothing.

Or what he did two months later when Iranian proxies struck again in Beirut, this time blowing up a Marine Corps barracks and killing 243 soldiers and sailors?
Well, this time he did something - he gave Iran thousands of anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles and begged them "Please stop killing some of our guys and taking other ones hostage! Pretty please?". And then he cut and ran from Lebanon.

Well, at least we know how St. Ronald got tough with people!

Or President Bush, when China rammed an American aircraft in international airspace, disabling it, and then interred the crew and combed over the aircraft and its classified parts while it had the crew held hostage?
Bush sent them a letter of apology.

Yep, those Republican Presidents sure are tough!

Well, there must be an excuse/reason for Congress somewhere - I guess Syria is as good a culprit to blame as any!

(Sorry, could't resist)

Yes, every news story about this base is al lie. Obama would never do a sneaky thing like that. Read the article, you might get an answer. Then read the CNN article on the base too. Then read the Wall Street J article.
