Default ACLU suing Philly for denying permit for rally

Now the ACLU is supporting the Bernie camp by filing a federal discrimination lawsuit by denying the constitutional right to protest. Amazing.

City denies Sanders presidential campaign a rally permit - but says he can reapply

What happened to the Constitutional right to conduct peaceful demonstrations?
Nothing, this is why... not to mention, Broad Street was full of Sanders people today, the city even supplied misting tents and water for the protesters, because of the extreme heat.

Quote:
In a Monday rejection letter, Jazelle M. Jones, a deputy managing director, said the field was subject to a multiparty agreement that does not allow nonrecreational uses.

Jones said the city could not recommend an alternative location, but welcomed "the submission of a revised application by your organization with a different staging area, time and/or route."

Lauren Hitt, a spokeswoman for Mayor Kenney, said Friday that it was not too late for the campaign to reapply for another location in FDR Park.
Furthermore,

Whether his campaign still wanted the permit was unclear. A spokesman for the campaign could not be reached for comment.

Other pro-Sanders permits have been approved by the city. A group of local grassroots supporters has received city permits for four demonstration areas in FDR Park. Also, planned marches for Sanders have been approved.

Reapply? Why doesn't the city just issue the permit and over turn its own denial? They could do this in5 min.

It wasn't their denial. The field is not to be used for non recreational uses, as per a multi party agreement. Sounds like there is more than one body responsible for the field. They could have applied for a permit elsewhere, including elsewhere in the same park.

I am sure that Ed Rendell, former Governor of Pennsylvania and former Mayor of Philadelphia and current Hillary Clinton supporter, would be outraged to learn of this injustice.
