Unfortunately, in the real world alliances are necessary. A global world means a world with global rules. Does Russia want to be apart of a global world?
The establishment views 7 billions customers as a good thing but protectioniist view them as enemies/job takers.

Obviously you dont want to ship items that can be used to hurt innocents. When you stop all trade with a nation all you do is hurt the poor. Remember all those that died in Iraq under Bush 1?

I do. We easily destroyed the Iraqi army and left all those people who rose up to be ruled under Saddam again.

Didn't work out at all for Iraq. We again easily destroyed their army and completely dropped the ball on the post war rebuild. We have a monetary bailout system through the IMF for dealing with economically bankrupt nations, we need a global system to prevent the mess we left.
Several million died as the result of genocide in Africa over the last 20 years. Seems like we need a better global system to deal with such things.

Globalization is inevitable and too many Americans have not taken the personal responsibility to adapt. I know it's trendy to think America is weak and down but we actually got like $80 billion in manufacturing and logistics being constructed along the gulf coast that is solidifying America's role in the production of refined petro products. With a clearer domestic energy policy, North America can not only become the largest producer of natural gas but largest exporter. We are already building the LNG export terminals.
