Can someone explain this to me? From what I can tell, Putin seems like a guy who is always reaching out to befriend the United States, but the neoconservatives in both the Republican and Democrat party act like we're still in the Cold War and are always fearmongering about Russia. Makes no sense to me. What would be wrong with the #1 and #2 superpower allying together? Why is it a bad thing that our next President is warm towards Putin?

Democrats are whining because the 'Reset Button' they tried with Putin failed. They don't want to see the other party succeed at something they failed at.

Because Putin is a dictator who cracks down on personal freedoms in Russia and who's trying to rebuild the Soviet Union?

He's authoritarian, but certainly far less dictatorial than many who have been American allies over the years.

Putin is extremely popular in Russia. People like having a leader who is dedicated to the interests of their country.

Neoconservatives tend to hate ethnic Russians for tribal reasons. They still want payback for the pogroms.

Bc Putin is using Trump the same way we (the CIA) used to used foreign puppets to sow domestic discord in their countries? The point then and now was to sabotage the opposition in order to put someone who would support our foreign policy goals in power.

And what's more important to Trump, the interests of his country or his many business interests in Russia?

That's an interesting theory.

Any proof that your theory is valid?

Trump impresses me as genuinely patriotic.

In the long run, many of the goals of the United States may tend to make Russia a natural ally.

There is no reason to oppose Russia just because they are Russia.
