I think it's more than plain the legacy of white European prejudice
and racism caused a great deal of America's
current race problem There's unfortunately
abundant evidence non-whites will be returning
the favor once they become a majority.

The major fault I see in some members of the black community
with regard to racial strife is that they find it
diffucult to be as the Chinaman is----confident in his
ability to adapt to adversity, as socially sensitive
as anyone but ultimately prideful enough not to let
prejudice drive him to guilt mongering and
obsesssive recriminating..

Keep in mind that Jewish people were slaves too and they don't keep whining about it nor do most of them talk too much about the Holocaust and the Nazi's/Germans and keep blaming them.

There is a point in time that people need to move on and as a child of two Holocaust survivors who lost many family members I feel I'm entitled to say this.

I feel that over the last few years more people are bringing slavery up due to Michele Obama now keep saying she lives in a house built by slaves but she forgets also white people were working on building the WH.

They want to become a victim to start the blame game as that is what democrats do to win votes. Start pointing fingers to make them feel better. Very sad and damaging to the next generation as it increases hate!

Its easier to say which color of people wasnt slaves at one time. All Colors were slaves. Some still are. Go to the middle east and you will see slavery throughout. Indentured servitude, slave to credit, slave to the system of welfare.. But, in America, we have choices to forget and move forward. Some dont.

I dont believe that the republican party that ended slavery in the 1800s is the same political party that denounces civil rights, minorities, immigrants, and social programs today. I dont think the democratic party of the 1800s which supported institutionalized slavery and jim crow is the same political party that champions civil rights, unions, and social programs today.
In the latter 1800s, the Republican Party championed women's rights, economic justice for labor, racial justice, full acceptance of immigrants as American citizens, and ecological conservation. They proudly called themselves "Progressives." You can read Teddy Roosevelt's speeches--Clinton can make the same speeches today with hardly a change...but no Republican can.

But that alliance of northern evangelical moralists and northern industrialists originally created to abolish slavery in 1854 ran into internal conflict as the moralists turned their guns toward issues dear to the hearts of the Guided Age industrialists (who were actually Libertarian with regard to government interference with big business).

The Republican Party split in the first decade of the 20th century, with Teddy Roosevelt pulling out his moralist progressives to form an actual "Progressive Party" and leaving the GOP to the industrial libertarians (although they hadn't begun calling themselves by that title yet). Here are two paragraphs from Roosevelt's 1912 "Bull Moose" speech (moments after being shot in the chest, still carrying the bullet and bleeding from the wound):

Quote:
And now, friends, this incident that has just occurred - this effort to assassinate me- emphasizes to a peculiar degree the need of the Progressive movement. Friends, every good citizen ought to do everything in his or her power to prevent the coming of the day when we shall see in this country two recognized creeds fighting one another, when we shall see the creed of the "Havenots" arraigned against the creed of the "Haves." When that day comes then such incidents as this to-night will be commonplace in our history. When you make poor men - when you permit the conditions to grow such that the poor man as such will be swayed by his sense of injury against the men who try to hold what they improperly have won, when that day comes, the most awful passions will be let loose and it will be an ill day for our country.

Now, friends, what we who are in this movement are endeavoring to do is forestall any such movement for justice now - a movement in which we ask all just men of generous hearts to join with the men who feel in their souls that lift upward which bids them refuse to be satisfied themselves while their countrymen and countrywomen suffer from avoidable misery. Now, friends, what we Progressives are trying to do is to enroll rich or poor, whatever their social or industrial position, to stand together for the most elementary rights of good citizenship, those elementary rights which are the foundation of good citizenship in this great Republic of ours.
But with the Republican party split, the regressive (conservative) Democrats took control.

In the latter 30s, the Progressives started infiltrating the Democratic Party from the north, pushing popular government economic measures to ameliorate the Great Depression. That gave the Democratic Party a rather split personality from the latter 30s.

In the early 60s, the libertarian GOP opposed federal forced racial desegregation (although the party leader, Barry Goldwater, personally favored integration and had been working for it as a rule in government employment but an option in private commerce). The GOP libertarian opposition to federal integration, however, found an ally in southern Democrat racist segregationists to oppose the Civil Rights Act. From the early 60s southern conservative Democrats began migrating to the Republican Party. That migration accelerated in the latter 60s as the Democratic party became more liberal across more platform planks than race.

The migration of conservative southern Democrats to the Republican Party went into full speed with the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980 and the formation of the Moral Majority that tied their religion to the GOP. By the second election of Reagan as president, all the old southern racist Democrats who would rather die than join the Party of Lincoln were dead. The old southern racist politicians saw where the butter was thicker on their bread and migrated to the GOP.

Over the course of the 20th century, the Democratic Party and the Republican Party flipped their entire political stances.

And you know, as well as I do, that this whole statement has been debunked. Quit preaching BS and drinking the Kool Aid. The DEMS are all about controlling the black people, the poor people etc. Read what LBJ stated in the 60's when he signed a little piece of paper about how the F'n ****** will bevoting dems for the next 200 years. Yeah, party of the people. All their programs are just to enslave blacks to the party.

It starts with slavery. Abolitionists were growing in numbers as people noticed that the values that created the US seemed to be in stark contrast with slavery. And abolitionists had a role to play long before slavery was finally abolished. Most, if not all, new US territories being annexed by the US outlaws slavery. One thing to understand, slavery was truly almost exclusive to the Souther states, though I'm sure exceptions existed. For the most part, states that had an agricultural economy relied on slave labor while those who had growing industries in other areas, made possible by industrialization, had no real use for slave labor.

By the time we get to the second half of the 1800s, abolitionists were becoming more active and more involved and for the first time in American history, they posed a legitimate threat to the institution of slavery. Going back to the values of America, the phrase 'all men are created equal' is a pretty clear example of an American value that is in contrast with slavery. Long story short, in order to justify maintaining the institution of slavery, they simple went with slaves not being real people. They were lesser to that of the European man. This lead us to Jim Crowe era.

The main difference is those Jews did not continue to live in Germany and Austria under Nazi rule once the Holocaust ended. Black Americans were never given the time or means to heal themselves while going from slavery to Jim Crow to COINTELPRO and the War on Drugs. And they certainly were not handed their own country by the UN as Jews were.
