Lightbulb Obama's place in historical rankings

He'll get a solid "above average" grade from presidential historians.

RWNJs may differ.

They're very proud of their opinions.

[*]John Adams was obnoxious and disliked, but may have done more to win our independence from Great Britain than any other man. [*]Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, served admirably and doubled the size of our nation with the Louisiana Purchase. [*]James Madison led us during the ridiculous mismatch war we call the War of 1812 -- and his leadership is a big part of why we survived as a nation. [*]James Monroe established the Monroe Doctrine in opposition to European colonial powers in North and South America and oversaw an era of great prosperity. [*]All of the above helped win our freedom to begin with and helped write the Constitution. [*]James Knox Polk doubled the size of the United States and fulfilled every promise he made to the American people in his first term. Having done all he set out to do, in George Washington-like fashion, he refused to run again. [*]Abraham Lincoln saved the United States from self-destruction and ended the institution of slavery. [*]Teddy Roosevelt was the incorruptible trust-buster who unflinchingly faced off against mega-companies and millionaires with massive political corruptive influence -- and won. He got the ball rolling for worker's rights in an era when workers had none. [*]Woodrow Wilson got us through World War I and fought to create the League of Nations -- a forum for all the nations of the world to actually sit down and talk to each other. [*]Warren Harding and Calvin Coolidge both oversaw non-stop massive economic prosperity, helping the United States continue grow into Great World Power status. [*]Franklin Roosevelt got us through the Great Depression, continued Teddy Roosevelt's crusade for worker's rights, created most of the social programs we've come to rely on, signed the first ever minimum wage into law and led us through most of World War II. [*]Harry Truman finished out WW2 and got us through the Korean War without losing the entire peninsula. [*]Dwight Eisenhower gave us the US Interstate System, got the Civil Rights ball rolling, balanced the budget for the first time in a long time and kept us out of any new wars. [*]John Kennedy took a massive gamble supporting blacks as the Civil Rights Movement heated up, got us through the Cuban Missile Crisis successfully and was one of the more inspirational figures in our history. [*]Ronald Reagan did more to end/win the Cold War than any other president. [*]George Bush Sr oversaw the final death of the USSR and it's Communist empire. He also saved Kuwait, rapidly getting us in and back out again. [*]Bill Clinton may be the luckiest guy ever. The dotcom boom happened during his presidency, allowing him to balance the budget for the first time in ages. Clinton oversaw one of the best 8 years in American ? [/b]
You listed 17 presidents that were better than Obama, which still means he is in the top half,i.e. better than average. That is how I expect Obama to be rated eventually: good, but not great.

BTW, I agree with all of your choices above except Warren Harding, who is widely considered one of the worst. Also the prosperity under Coolidge led to the greatest economic collapse in our history.

The poll has already been conducted by Quinnipiac.

Simply the difference between a presidential scholar and your average Joe whose thinking capacity is short circuited by the Washington Times or FoxNews.
