I'm putting the guy down because he doesn't actually know what it takes for black people to succeed in America. I'm not going to act like I know everything a black person needs to succeed. I'm sure no one really has that answer. I do know how someone escapes poverty though, and hard work will get your out of the ghetto, but it won't keep you out of the ghetto. And that's the main difference between me and "bulletpoint advice givers". There are so many things in society and in the market that totally directly contradicts the whole idea of "work harder, be more personally responsible". I mean guys like Lil Wayne, a famous rapper has more money than you and me combined, but he' has like 11 kids, and isn't responsible at all.
So this idea needs to be amended. One has to set a goal, and then they need to start writing down ways to achieve this goal, AND risk/reward. The main problem with black people in America is a poor sense of risk vs reward. But this is a problem with white Americans too. The effects of not understanding the tradeoffs doesn't hurt the white person's bottomline as much, but it does hurt them individually.
All your talking about is the same things it takes for any Human being in this world to "make" it. Everyone is different. Everyone has their own way of setting goals, and how high and when to set them.
If there are 3 billion people in this world there are 3 billion different scenarios and approaches.........
What worked for you may not work for someone else. People also choose their own "heros" or use people for examples to match their way of thinking or their approach to an endeavor.
LOL, I'm not even sure Shabazz is a he, but I like that he/she has a theme here. Or in my world, a tag line.
Assuming Los "Awesome" (in his location) is Los Angeles we live in the same town. Me and him need a beer summit. We can even do it in Compton if he wants.
1. I am not a man
2. I don't praise the lord
3. what is my type, exactly? and tread carefully since you got 1 and 2 wrong.
The truth hurts, I guess. Rather than applaud a young man's efforts to dig himself out of the ghetto and poverty, you insult and mock him. So I repeat what I said earlier. This reaction speaks VOLUMES as to why so many AA's have it rough. You don't support each other. If someone succeeds, they're mocked and called a Republican or an uncle Tom. What a fantastic approach!
I guess you're one of the people that will take a figure of speech literally. You might not be a conservative man but your ideology is pretty consistent with this demographic. Let me guess, you're a registered Republican?
As for the other poster I was replying to, you're reading into my comments too much and you're seeing things that aren't there. My issue only lay with his opinion towards the black civil rights movement of today and that he's American first. At a minimum having such an opinion is a slippery slope...

Yep, yep, South Central LA... The funny thing is that in real life I rarely hear all these negative things towards black folks coming out of people's mouths like we hear on CD on a daily basis. Maybe this is conservatives avenue to vent... Who knows... But this site is heavily slanted to the right in membership...

This site is slanted right.
I doubt there are many conservative folks in South Central so it stands to reason you wouldn't hear those viewpoints in your neighborhood.

We can have a picnic in Leimert Park.
I've been all over so my observation isn't restricted to SC..
