Add up the percentage of the population that is in the following groups:
* All women
* Black males
* Hispanic males
* Gay males
Isn't that like 3/4 of the population?
No wonder the Democratic party has so many members. It's an Orwellian society whereby a majority of the population is considered an oppressed minority.
People get addicted to the victim mentality because they want the sympathy and/or want stuff for nothing. If you're a victim, people will feel bad for you, and you can guilt them into doing things for you and giving you resources. No actual work required.
Politicians can play on this by promising things to various "underprivileged" groups. They take from the productive and give to the victimized groups, and the victimized groups give them power.
Yes. If you practice "from each according to ability and to each according to need", you will very quickly have a bunch of people with need but no ability. Which is a victim. Victims, victims everywhere!!

one group seems to be vocal about it and the others just go on with their lives.
this is part of the progressive strategy, divide everyone up into victim segments, point to a single group to blame for all of societies ills, hammer the point home and make the claim that you as a good democrat and defender of the down trodden and poor will do your very best to make sure the downtrodden is your priority, and punish the evil people, usually the rich or upper middle class white males, and bring up the downtrodden peoples with higher minimum wages, or free health care, or what ever else they wish to give away.
the other thing they need is a secondary target, this one is political though, and that is conservatives and/or republicans. usually at some point the downtrodden realize that they have been fed bullcrap for years,a nd they revolt and toss off the yoke of slavery to the government, and then have a rough time of reestablishing their independence. but that is for another post.

Exactly.
This can be traced back to the UC Berkley spawned Sheridan Palace protest.
Once besieged by protestors, the hotel had little choice but to cave to the student's demands.
Protesting thereafter replaced work as a primary means of achieving goals.
