No, that's not called being an illegal immigrant. She was in the country legally, hence her visa. Plus, the photographer from the '95 photo shoot has said that she wasn't paid for the shoot, which would make it not actually "work".

I hate Trump as much as the next guy but this is a non-issue.

If you hate trump I have some good news for you. It is also illegal for foreigners to work for free in america. It takes away a job from an american. Even volunteering for a non profit is fraught with complexity. The basis of foreigners working in america is that they must have qualifications not easily filled by an american (models can avoid this if very famous), they must be sponsored and paid at a rate that would be acceptable to an american with similar qualifications. I did immigrate to america, it is comp!icated, to do it you have to understand a lot about the process. Melanie and her attorney (he is probably getting a different story from her each time as I am sure he is more than competent) continue to contradict themselves. I have a feeling its not just the election that is going to turn out bad for the donald

It is not a non-issue. Any tourist who comes in the country is "in the country legally" but that in no way shape or form means they have permission to work. The '95 shoot was not the only work she did, and I doubt she worked for free continuously.

In addition, Mr. Trump's modeling agency also skirted immigration laws. For the candidate who headlines himself as the "law and order" candidate, as the "immigration" candidate, it is not a lot to ask that he and his wife produce documents reflecting they were not breaking the law.

It also brings up another large issue. Models are given almost half of the H1b visas hand out annually. This is ridiculous. Why should legal American women have to compete with the entire world for modeling jobs, and compete with models who will work for free? And btw, these models don't have to wait in the same lines other immigrants do. What makes them any different than IT workers?

We don't know if she came in on a tourist visa or an H1b visa because Trump will not tell us. This is the same man who demanded, yes demanded, that the POTUS produce a birth certificate to prove he was legitimate. He wants to be president and install his wife in the WH? He should live up to the same standards and demands he makes of others.

It's time this guy stopped just talking the talk, and walks the walk. Or he should just keep his big mouth shut and not demonize others for doing what he and his family have done. Let's hear Mr. "tells it like it is" tell us. And let's see Mrs. Trump's tax returns from when she 'worked here legally.'

"...H-1B visas are valid for a minimum of three years (and up to six more) and do not require their holders to return to their home countries for renewals. By contrast, the visas that do require renewal are B-1 (Temporary Business Visitor Visas) or B-2 (Tourist Visas)..."

Donald Trump has said Melania was planning a "little press conference" to speak about her Visa and immigration into the USA. I haven't seen this press conference. Have any of you seen Melania do this?

Melania claims she came to the US in 1996 but the nude photo shoot shows she was here in 1995. Melania also says that she would return home from New York to renew her visa every few months. This means she has visitor's visa only - a work visa would gave a longer time frame and not have required her to return home every few months.

Gaps in Melania Trump's immigration story raise questions - POLITICO
Totally irrelevant. Trump married her in 2000, that would have made her a citizen, anyways.

Just marrying a citizen does not make the spouse a citizen. They must still go thru a process to gain citizenship.

Nor does it automatically grant permanent residency, you must still apply and go through a process.

What a pita our immigration policy is. A company I used to work for tried to hire a Canadian once. Legally. It was a nightmare. I know a lot of people freak out when they hear the phrase " comprehensive immigration reform" but we seriously need it.

As it stands, it makes more sense to show up illegally and lay low. It's a hot mess.

What does "comprehensive immigration reform" mean to you? It's not reform it's amnesty.
