Well if all drugs were made legal I think we would have more people trying them.
Imagine if there was no fear of being arrested if you were a user. Obama just released 600 drug dealers from prison and some of them were caught with large amounts of hard drugs and illegal guns so eventually there will be no fear of being arrested if you are a dealer.

If we are actually encouraging drug use by decriminalizing it lets also stop saving people who have over dosed. Less addicts mean less drugs overall and less crime that goes along with addicts trying to feed their habit.

As for me, I am tempted to vote Yes since I think that, even for the extremely dangerous drugs, we should go after the producers (by prosecuting them, obviously) while providing help and treatment--rather than jail time--to the consumers.

Indeed, any thoughts on this?

In theory yes.

Reality is, unfortunately another matter.

If people indulged in their drug(s) of choice in a bubble, never impacting those around them in a negative way, then I'd say have at it....you own your own body and are free to turn it into a dumpster if you wish.

But that's not the way reality works.

People who do drugs do have negative impact on the people around them, innocent people like their children or other citizens who may be oblivious to the fact that the druggie they are dealing with is living in another world, where values and the ability to distinguish right from wrong and make other decisions that affect others are warped and twisted into completely different mind set.

And I say this as a former pot head....and worse.

There are also other complications that arise, for example, trying to prosecute driving while impaired when some drugs stay detectable in your system long after the high wears off.

It's like trying to charge a sober driver with DUI because they were drunk last week.

If the pharmaceutical companies can do it legally, why not the guy on the corner?

[legalize and regulate]

As long as the public doesn't have to pick up the tab for what will surely be human refuse as a result of their personal choices.

No drugs at all.

Yeah I'm with decriminalizing all drugs. It's a waste of energy and people's lives locked up in prison all for them making their own choices on use of drugs....why do you care what I do?

BTW, the only drug I regularly consume is alcohol but I don't think any governmental body should tell me or anyone else which drugs they can have.

Then you can foot the bill for the inevitable consequences of their choices.

I don't care what you do......as long as it has zero effects on me and my loved ones.

But that's not how the reality of many who choose to do drugs works, aside from the occasional use pot smoker or similar users.....most all drugs users have a negative effect on others sooner or later.

If your looking at it from a Libertarian point of view, in that people own themselves and have a right to abuse themselves if they wish....you have to also remember that many drugs, by their very nature reduce the users ability to adhere to the non-aggression principle of "do no harm".

Drug users don't live their lives separate and away from those who are negatively impacted by them.

Are people who are voting "no drugs" also wanting to re-institute prohibition of the drug alcohol? For consistency's sake I have to assume the answer is yes.

I didn't vote yes or no because I'm sort of torn on the matter.

However, I will say this.

Just because you have a small stream running through your yard doesn't mean it'sa good idea to blow the dam up.

Just because alcohol is legal or weed arguably should be....doesn't mean we should be selling Heroin on sale 20% off on Tuesdays at CVS.

If talking weed: I'd be Ok with making it "legal" but; anything above that like coke or meth, nope.
