"The first" anything always gets attention. In every single Olympics we get stories like this. All you hear about? I don't watch a lot of television but when I got home this morning the wife had it on. All I saw was reports of Phelps winning another gold medal.

Sorry there was stories of the female swimmer that kicked ass and won gold also. (don't recall her name).

Please explain the difference between Olympic team and a business or school.

I really don't understand why you guys never just get right to the point instead of using the Olympics as some diversion for your true sentiments. Hell, you're a right winger. It ain't like we don't already know how you feel.
The skin color does not matter!!!

Everything should be merit based. Not sure why that is difficult for you to understand.

Alright. I'll bite at your willful obtuseness.

An Olympic Team is a group of athletes selected for their prowess in their chosen sport to compete on behalf of their nation at the Olympic Games.

A business is a company or corporation that exists to buy, sell, manufacture, import, or export material goods and/or provide consultation and services to other businesses.

A school serves to educate people.

Each of these three operates under specific rules, bylaws, and regulations totally independent of one another. They are three separate entities that have nothing to do with one another, not even for use of snarky comparisons by stupid internet posters.

You're welcome.

You didn't answer the question. Why is diversity important in businesses and schools but not Olympic teams?

Shouldn't students and employees including CEOs be selected based merit just like the Olympic teams rather than their skin color?

You didn't ask me that question. This is becoming rather tiring.

I'm not concerned with diversity. Never indicated here that I was.

Merit is subjective. What's merit?

No, everything SHOULD NOT be merit based as you define merit. Merit is whatever the hell the arbiter of said prize says it is.

That's life in the real world. I know you don't believe it, but you aren't the best qualified person for your job. Why shouldn't they fire you and hire someone who's even better?

I mean, gimme a break.

Because schools and companies look at various factors in admissions and hiring, not just scores or performance, whereas with teams you're looking solely at performance.

If companies hired only the best of - average people wouldn't have jobs.

You're acting coy here, as though you don't understand, and it's silly.

A business should always hire the best people it can find.

Lack of swim clubs in urban areas. Lack of golf courses in urban areas, too. Similarly, lack of auto race tracks. And lack of horse stables.

But there is, and ought to be, a certain level of diversity consciousness even in choosing Olympic sports teams. The demographics of the nation make it very easy to assemble an all-white team in America and pretend you've collected the very best, whether you really have or not.
