You just knew some 'eagle eyed' nitpicker would automatically focus in on this. Some equating her posture to commemorating the second anniversary of Michael Brown's death
Funny how there wasn't equivalent criticism of Phelps laughing away during his ceremony.
For the record, the U.S. Flag Code advises American civilians to stand at attention and place their right hand over their heart during the playing of the National Anthem. But the code, while technically federal law, is not enforceable.
Also, Gabby did put her hand over her heart back in 2012 when the US women's team won gold.
It was one of the proudest moments of Gabby Douglas’ life — and one she was shamed on social media for.
On Tuesday night, the gymnast and her four Team USA teammates — Simone Biles, Laurie Hernandez, Madison Kocian and Aly Raisman — won gold in the women’s team all around event.
It was the second gold for Douglas in that event; she led the squad to victory in 2012. She was also the individual all-around champion from the London Games.
But as Douglas took her third Olympic podium, she didn’t something her teammates did. She didn’t place her hand over her heart as the national anthem played. Critics took to Twitter, calling her move “disrespectful” and “unpatriotic.”

I said, "One nation, Indefensible..." instead of "under god, indivisible..." LOL - I've no idea why it came out that way. I caught myself and carried on.
I guess those on the right can be as petty as those on the left.
Lots more important stuff to care about people.
