Snowden did a lot of damage to Obama even though Snowden was everything Obama claimed to be for.

I've watched some Snowden's interviews. I think his motivations may not have been absolutely pure, I understand that people do things for complex sets of reasons. It’s impossible to be unbiased in our actions.

Unilaterally leaking troves of top secret national security documents, as Mr. Snowden has done, is a dangerous act approaching treason. So for me at least, much of my final judgment about Mr. Snowden’s choice hinges on this.

I don't believe he should be facing death penalty or anything like that, but I do believe he should be facing prison time.

I don't know if I am comparing apples to oranges here, The US government doesn't really have to tell the media, or families , anything else about black ops. I suppose some families roughly know what their loved ones signed up for, but even the ones that don't, the soldiers who actually do the signing up are kept quite well aware of what "official story" (i.e., lie) their families will be told. You can argue SOME black ops are illegal (however you want to define that term), as a special force soldier, you have the responsibility to keep your mouth shut.

The same logic can apply to the civilian world. What he (Snowden) reveals is the details of extensive internet and phone surveillance by American intelligence. In real life even in legally developed countries, mass surveillance, namely indiscriminately spying on people without a particular reason, is still a big controversy, I get that, but I don't think it is necessarily wrong for government to do that for security reasons.

Personally I think Obama SHOULD pardon him. His motivations were surely purer than that of General Betray-US who got zero jail time for his leaks and Snowden was not even active duty military and let's not even start comparing him to Marc Rich whom Clinton pardoned.

However, I don't think Obama will pardon him because frankly he seems too worried about his legacy to take the risk.

I can’t imagine Snowden accepting a pardon once he realizes the conditions behind them. It’s likely that Snowden’s talk about a pardon is part of the negotiation he is having with the government.

In order to accept a pardon, you have to admit that you’ve done something wrong, and I can’t imagine Snowden doing that. Since Snowden will certainly reject a pardon with conditions, there’s no point in thinking about offering him one.

And now you just elected a guy who is allergic to the truth. How absolutely ironic.

Snowden should stand trail for treason and then hang.

I am not a fan of Mr. Snowden.

But, Given that the man has not even been charged with anything, much less had due process in a trial, it seems to me you are a bit ahead of yourself in discussing the death penalty.
