Ok, I live in SW Florida and have for 10 years. I simply do not get all this spraying. We now have monsoon like rains every day. My Lanai gets flooded just about every day. In the past few months the man make lake in front of my home is up a good 3 to 4 feet from all this rain.
What in the world do they think they are accomplishing with all this spraying? Eliminate standing water and it is going to come back tomorrow, and the day after that, on and on. Spraying? It is all getting washing away with the rains.
Now if they were spraying in the Dry Season in Florida when it never rains for weeks and months at a time, I could see the point in that.
Spraying in Rainy Season in Florida is literally money down the drain. Simply a feel good solution.
It helps if you know the entire story and can understand, not all bills that appear to be for the best really are? The GOP tried their version, it didn't play for the Dems. did you know that part of the story or how some bills have pork attached to them or hidden words that make a bill not what it appears to be.
No one, on either side is opposed to ending the Zika threat here, there just has to a workable bill. The cost has to be studied and a less expensive way found. Plain DDT would be the answer but of course it has been banned for many years. How do you feel about using it or some other pesticide?
Seems to me spraying for mosquito eradication is underway in a big way,if this Zika issue is as deadly as people are claiming (which it isnt)cost should be the least of any ones worry.
Nita DDT was banned for a very good reason and i think if it were used today in the spraying applications taking place youd have more dead people from the spraying than you would from the Zika virus.
Yes, let's fight Zika. Let's use the most effective tool - DDT.
The EPA took seven months to hold hearings where they went over reports, data and studies and listened to expert testimony on DDT. The final report issued by the EPA committee that was in charge of this in depth review said that DDT was a relatively safe and effective means to control mosquitos and the disease they transmit with minimal impact to the environment. The director of the EPA, who chose not to attend the meetings and supposedly didn't read the report, effectively banned DDT.
If Obama was serious about Zika, he would have the EPA objectively review that report and reverse, or at least relax, the ban on DDT.
Bees have enough problems without more chemicals endangering their existence. No bees; no pollination; no crops.
It also kills butterflies who are pollinators. I live in South Florida and haven't seen either bees nor butterflies lately. Very sad and frightening. They have sprayed my property with a big truck. That fog enveloped my entire backyard. Daytime when all the insects, birds, people and pets are around.
If it is so safe, why are YOU wearing a breathing apparatus?
Conservatives aren't against fighting Zika. They are against giving Obama $1.1 Billion to do it. That's a lot of money to kill mosquitos. Looks like a big boondoggle to me.
