Sure. It's called "creating U.S. Dollars." It's how we pay for war, it's how we pay for Medicare, it's how we pay for bank bailouts.

I guess creating new debt in order to declare war on Iraq is OK, creating new debt to bail out Goldman Sachs' counterparties and prop up housing assets is OK, but it is not OK to do it for public health. That's the message being sent by Republicans.

It makes sense to use healthcare related budget items because zika is a health threat.
It makes sense to augment the healthcare budget, not to cut it.

Republicans suggested money from ACA and Planned Parenthood.

1. ACA IS healthcare.
2. Planned Parenthood because their funding IS pregnancy support.
Cutting these two things is a right-wing ideological solution. Republicans want to cut ACA and Planned Parenthood regardless of Zika.

We could cut Medicare. I mean it's healthcare, right?

And your link is decidedly partisan.
Do you dispute the facts within?

Bottom line BOTH parties have made this into a political stand-off. Same *%#! different day.
The Republicans could've crafted a bill that only dealt with Zika, but they didn't. They brought their ideological crap into it.

The issue is to keep it from spreading. Unfortunately, Florida's governor is a moron.

And he's lucky that a president who he has treated like dirt is overstepping Congress to answer his futile call for Congress to come back in session and approve the funds.

All we need to do is use DDT to get the mosquitos under control.

IMO Lymes Disease seems a more important problem than Zika is.

Obama sidesteps deadlocked Congress to fund Zika fight

No doubt the conservatives will now portray Obama as hitler for sidestepping the Do-Nothing GOP Congress on this one.
The conservatives are not against fighting this virus!! We just don't want all kinds of things attached to any bill that the Left will attach to force through an agenda that wouldn't otherwise pass.

The EPA took seven months to hold hearings where they went over reports, data and studies and listened to expert testimony on DDT. The final report issued by the EPA committee that was in charge of this in depth review said that DDT was a relatively safe and effective means to control mosquitos and the disease they transmit with minimal impact to the environment. The director of the EPA, who chose not to attend the meetings and supposedly didn't read the report, effectively banned DDT.

If Obama was serious about Zika, he would have the EPA objectively review that report and reverse, or at least relax, the ban on DDT.

The Truth About DDT and Silent Spring - The New Atlantis

You need to do a little studying on the particular type of mosquito that is carrying this Zika virus. This is not your normal little backyard gnat, the people who study it liken it to the "Cockroach of the Mosquito world". Very hard to kill and most normal treatments are not very effective. The disease can also be spread sexually, as well as via a bite.

There have been many new cases of it right here in South Florida, and they are trying to keep it from getting worse. Some scientists are saying genetically altered Mosquitos to breed with them is one hope.

As for the GOP, they do not believe in ANY science, even global change. Plus, they look for any reason to stop the other team from doing anything, so why should this be any different. Glad to see Obama is taking the lead and ignoring the GOP usual stonewalling.
