That doesn't excuse what we are responsible for.

This is a bit pejorative for my tastes. However it's the result when Western governments are unwilling to maintain law and order because of political correctness. Chalk it up to the "Ferguson effect" on a giant scale.

"We should help each other,"

Where do we draw the line?

We are almost 20 TRILLION in debt ourselves.

Who is going to "aid " us when we go broke and can't afford to pay OUR bills?

Just out of curiosity how mach money have YOU donated to the charities trying to help these people?

As usual, you make perfect sense! But don't forget, these people need translators... although not speaking English hasn't held anyone back from being employed in our country. The culture difference is huge. I can see it now: The ACLU suing on their behalf for discrimination. Nothing good will come of this. And there will be 110,000 more over the next few months.

... But we are expected to take care of every ailment on the planet! Has anyone ever helped us out?

As pointed out throughout this thread, they are in a civil war, but still, we persist in getting involved.

Exactly. They wanted independence and self-determination. By golly let them have it.

What the OP suggest is the most sensible thing that should had been done. It could increase motivation for the refugees to get back to their homes ASAP and stop fighting. Only G_d understands the philosophy of Merkel and Obama.

I think it would be great if this could be done, but how exactly would that happen? Who would set up the safe zone? Who would guard it? The US? The UN? Someone else? Despite Daesh/ISIS/ISIL's caliphate claims, Syria is still a sovereign territory. How would this be done without violating their sovereignity? And how the heck do you keep a "safe zone" safe in the midst of active conflict?

Can't have a safe or no-fly zone unless we are willing to send in our soldiers and possibly start a War with Russia. Americans do not have the stomach for that. Diplomacy is the only way.
