Too many November holidays as it is. This year, Election Day is only a few days from Veteran's Day. Then there's Thanksgiving, which has morphed into a whole week for the schools.

We were just in Canada the first weekend in August, which is "Civic Holiday" up there. It would be nice to have another summer holiday.

The city of Boulder, Colorado is joining several others in renaming Columbus Day "Indigenous People's Day". A bit PC, but I do think C-day is on its way out.

I think the better solution would be to have Election Day on the weekend (with a guaranteed right to an absentee ballot for anyone who has to work that day).

ETA: Sorry for the bump (I saw this thread on the side).

How about choice 5 - don't wait for the government to tell you what days you think deserve taking off, decide that for yourself and take those days off.

IMO, if they are going to away with Columbus Day then a so-called Indigenous People's Day is just as stupid.

Not every job allows you to do that. If you work in health care, you usually have to have a replacement. Sometimes, you have to find that person.

Columbus day is a bogus holiday that real working people don't get off.

In this county 70% of people vote by mail, they don't need a day off to vote.
