I'm a huge fan of leather products, (footwear, bags, etc) and will only purchase items with leather that comes from U.S. based tanneries. Only then can you be sure that the leather you get was tanned correctly and apparently now it confirms what the leather is.
I believe that Wickett-Craig in Curwensville, PA is the last leather tannery in the USA if they haven't closed down. The USA was once the world's leading exporter of all types of leather.
Some of the best leather in the world comes from Chicago.
You can get leather jackets made in US but be prepared to pay for them. Cheapest one I was able to find was $300 from this small shop in Florida. Most of them at other places are $500+.
They sell mostly motorcycle jackets but that one is a little more casual. The quality of that jacket was outstanding and the service was outstanding too. Purchase was made about a week after Christmas, took about a month to be shipped. It was too small and the return process for different one was no questions asked which is little rare because each jacket can be custom made.
I try to boycott anything made in China. Anything made there is usually garbage anyway.
Pretty tough nowadays. Many things have some component nowadays that are made in China. I only wear Red Wing work boots that are made in the USA, but even they import materials/components from elsewhere.

Im a redwing guy as well. 1 day break in and very comfortable.
Our elected leaders have sold American industry to the Chinese and Mexico. Very sad.
Much of the problem is cultural. Chinese suppliers believe that what an importer doesn't know can't hurt him.
They change product specifications without asking, and they believe that it is better to beg forgiveness than to ask permission. Quality is seen as a barrier to greater profitability and quality issues are not openly discussed.

I think the RW "heritage" collection still sources everything here in the U.S. There are a handful of American boot companies out there that source their materials and make them here. Just have to do a little research and pay.
