Why is Obama not pressuring Brazil to let our swimmers go?
Because they're all white guys?
Now if they were black Muslim refugees he's roll out the red carpet and give them all access to social programs and give them a monthly allowance. Na just kidding... the real reason is that he's playing it cool and hoping Brazil (like Iran)doesn't ask for $400 million dollars to get these guys free.
Breaking news from Brazil indicates the swimmers involved may have made the robbery story up. They had a dispute with the owner of the gas station, and from onlookers' testimony, the robbery never happened.
For sure, our government is watching this very closely, but the fact is all the American Olympians are on foreign soil, and the laws of Brazil govern them while they are there.
Since the U.S. has no extradition treaty with Brazil, there is no way the government can arbitrarily force Brazil to give them over to our Embassy.
I'm guessing Lochte just might have lost some endorsement deals.
Like...MILLIONS of dollars. And for what?
I'm sure he can still advertise for booze, diapers, and travel agents who cater exclusively to "Ugly Americans."

Phelps is probably sweating his relay medals now. I am pretty sure the IOC doping people will be taking a good long look at the other swimmers test results for violations.

Brazil is just giving itself another black eye by keeping the issue alive rather than just let it fade away. Dumb move on their part to make an international incident over it.
Where is the Olympic Committee on this. They should be outraged and demanding the immediate release of the athletes.

Typical Latin American country always looking to antagonize the Gringos and poke their fingers in our eyes. In the rest of the world where people are not stuck in a permanent hysteria over make believe "Yankee Gringo imperialists" they would have done their investigation discreetly, and than tell them to leave and never come back.
This is such an insult that they are holding our Olympians. It requires us to embarass Brazil so that they and the other little countries never mess with good ol USA again. This was the lesson from Iran. Be tough, Obama. The world is watching.
Betcha feel kinda silly about this now.
So much for trying to turn this into a referendum on Obama with the whole conservative "tough guy" shtick. Sometimes it helps for you tough guys to actually learn some facts before rushing to judgment.
If the accounts are correct, then Lochte is a jackwagon and I would be happy to see him sent back to Brazil to face trial and, if proven guilty, do a brief stint in jail... not that that will ever happen.
The identity of the security guards will be kept private? Yeah, of course. In a free country like ours the accused has a right to confront witnesses against them. The cops are lying and have fabricated the entire story to save face for Brazil. The US needs to take some action to retaliate for this.
