This scam has been done to death. People still fall for it?
Sure they do. Same for the Nigerian lottery and calls from the IRS claiming the person owes money and must pay it immediately with a money card. The sad thing is there seems to be an endless supply of people willing to fall for such scams.

The couple is free to put nasty notes on the receipt.
The lady's grandfather is free to broadcast the nasty note on the internet.
The business is free to discriminate against the racist couple.
No government involvement. No one's natural liberties violated.

Grandpa is an attorney with his office next to the diner.
He started this ****storm when he posted the receipt to his Facebook page with the comment "Ada M. Doriot. You are a complete and total piece of dung." In an earlier comment he threatened to hit the customer.
His lawyer friends and investigators quickly dug into searching out who was the customer.
They picked the wrong Hispanic girl to mess with.
Costs about 25 bucks to search a name. Doubt if a team of lawyers worked on it.
At what point does an attorney posting a customer's receipt (why is it even available for the waitress attorney in the first place?), using professional investigators to look into the customer and publicly identifying them online cross legal boundaries?
The customer's legal rights have been violated big time. I hope they sue his pants off. He has put them in danger of identity theft. He not only published their signature but questionable evidence of what he considers wrong doing and the last four digits of their credit card. I didn't realize tips were mandatory. And put them up to public ridicule for no reason that he can prove.

There is a whole thread about someone who did not leave a tip. Some people who charge their meal leave the tip on the table. I personally would never use a credit card at a restaurant because identity theft people warn you never to do that. And if you do use a credit card you are not supposed to let it leave your sight. Maybe this thread is a good example of why never to use a credit card at a restaurant. How did that receipt find its way out of the restaurant? Maybe some other people need to do some checking about what goes on there.

If the customers privacy had been respected we would not be having this conversation either. Doesn't the American Privacy Act cover restaurants? When you are a professional working with the public, you have to have a very thick skin. If you cannot do that than you need to get another job. The only rights violated in this situation is the customer's.

I suggest if you are a racist you do not leave written proof behind in this day and age.
There is no such thing as the American Privacy Act. There is a Privacy Act which covers government information and the protection thereof, but nothing that applies in this situation.
