So how many is considered sold out? Are there 5 people attending this one day workshop? 10? 50? Seems like an odd story to make international news... but then it is the Daily Mail.
However, the class is described as: "'White people in the U.S. live in a racially insular social environment...Because these racial perspectives are so rarely challenged within this environment, white people have not had to develop the stamina needed to tolerate racial stress...When white people are challenged in cross-racial interactions, White Fragility triggers a range of defensive moves including: argumentation, invalidation, silence, withdrawal, and claims of being attacked and unsafe."

Seriously? And she's standing room only....wow, just...wow. Alright then. OP, you're Black, so ...this is where I'm supposed to fall into a quivering stage of fear, according to this person. (We're not supposed to say "woman"...gender norming ya know), The "shadow of the hawk", as it were. Funny, I don't feel an krresistable urge to scurry for a hole in the ground. With all the walking on eggshells we are ALL doing these days, over skin tone, gender, who people have sex with, religion, "culture"
, its a wonder we can even get through our day.
Well, thanks for this tidbit of information. I'll sleep better knowing there's help for my fragile state. Legs do lunch sometime. Providing there's no carriers that will cause either of us to go China Syndrome in "cultural" issue of food, that is. Navigating this see of eggshells is getting quite tiresome..yes? (Sigh)...
It is getting annoying. I can't stand Macklemore for the same reason (what is it with Seattle-ites?). He's as bad as the girl who walked through the Southside of Chicago with a sign that said "Sorry Black America."
It seems like patronizing, as if she thinks black people are children and she can help just by apologizing for something she didn't do. I would be a little insulted at the insinuation that I need her to make it all better. Now I get the problem black people have with the white savior complex.
I have a very liberal friend who I have seen change his demeanor around black people, being overly impressed by their accomplishments instead of just treating them like everyone else. He doesn't even realize he's doing it, but I think the people he's talking to get it. It's very well meaning because he cares about these issues. He's just not around a lot of black people most of the time. I live in a mixed neighborhood with a lot of successful and/or highly educated black people, so to me it's just normal. He lives in an older neighborhood in town where it's more segregated.
