Uh, I'd like to at least be assured that I'm being treated by someone who has training, not a quack. Similarly, I also would like to be driven by someone who knows the laws of the road, too.

If they won't learn English, they're not going to move back just because they can't drive a taxi. They will just go drive for Uber instead.

You misread my post. What I am saying is that tickets don't bother people much who have minimal ties to their adopted or part-time homeland.

Ok, I understand it now and more or less agree. I would just say it depends on how committed they are to staying in this country rather than how many ties or how close their ties are.

Is this not all kind of silly.. In five years it will no longer be necessary to be human to drive a cab.

Knowledge of the English language is no longer a requirement to drive a cab in New York City. To me this displays utter contempt for the majority of people, in order to appease various political or block leaders. Similarly the picture below illustrates an attitude that "English speakers need not apply.

I have no problem in accepting immigrants or integrating foreigners into the work force. I do believe they should learn English, for their own good as much as for the benefit of the rest of society. I don't believe that foreigners should be at the mercy of self-appointed representatives or pot-stirrers.

I also believe that as a member of the traveling public, when I use a regulated carrier such as a taxi or mass transit, I have a right to be served in English.
I wish the English language was a requirement for posting on the CD forum, but what are you going to do?
