Not fair because they lost nothing. $7.75m is based on what damage? Psychological? Law is only a law when it is consistent. This is ridiculous.
As part of their settlement, the township has agreed to purchase land along the highway to the tune of $2.75 million using Open Space Trust Funds and a bond ordinance. They further agreed to pay $5 million in damages and attorney’s costs, to avoid any legal costs brought about by future action taken in the courts.
Not fair? LOL. It's what happens when you violate someone's Constitutional/civil rights.

No not fair. But if you treat life with emotion, I guess you believe it is fair.
"Thank you for reading and considering our perspective. If we do not receive a positive
response before or at next public meeting on Aug 22nd, we will have no choice but to ask the
Department of Justice to take action against Newton County for religious discrimination."
Agree or get sued!
Don't film child porn. Agree or go to jail.
That's how the law works. This can't be a new concept to you.
Mosques are hardly the only ones being rejected by zoning boards. There have been many, many churches of all denominations met with resistance from residents. And courts have found in their favor, too. And zoning changes all the time.
So go ahead and build that mosque. And someone can open a Giggling Pig restaurant right across the street.
Please, discrimination cases are hard to prove, every lawyer knows this.
Well, I think discrimination aside, the state shutting down property rights is another big issue.
From the letter: “The first question that comes to my mind is if there are enough Muslims in south Newton
County that we need to build not only a mosque but a community, a school and what all is in the
plan,” Commissioner Douglas told The Rockdale Citizen, “would building those things make us a
prime area for the federal government to resettle refugees from the Middle East? So I do have some
concerns, like the people who live down there."
This was their reason. It might bring more Muslims. That was it. The closest thing to a valid point was the issue of resettling refugees. And even this, the irony of a bigger entity doing something against a smaller one's will is hilarious in this context.

I agree with you.
However, This much I do know,
While the Civil Rights Act protects against workplace discrimination, it is often very difficult to prove that discrimination occurred. There are certain details and documents that should be provided if you plan to file a workplace discrimination lawsuit.
Also, in order to receive monetary compensation, the plaintiff must prove damage. I fail to see how the group should be getting 7.75 million dollars.
estimating the "worth" of an employment discrimination case is difficult and imprecise. Unlike personal injury cases, which have a fairly well-defined range of monetary values for different kinds of physical injuries (mainly determined by insurance companies), the recoveries in employment discrimination cases vary quite widely.
