How many "second chances" are enough for the left?
As it relates to Illinois, opposistion to tougher sentences is bipartisan, black legislators/ activists AND down state Republicans influenced by the NRA.

The NRA has never been against tougher sentencing.

Thank you. I kept thinking I was reading something the wrong way.

In the OP there was a quote about education and opportunity being what's needed. It's a key, and valid point, but people on both sides of the gun argument want to side-step it because it's too hard to implement. It would take changing culture and mentalities that have been developing for decades.

And I agree that pot just needs to be legalized already. Hubby and I were flipping through channels last night while waiting for the kids to get ready for bed, and Alan Thicke was on Family Feud. Not something we would normally watch, but this was one of the funniest things I've seen in a LONG time. Skip to the 2:30 mark.

Keep "guessing" because of your OWN basis you attempt to put words in the OP,s mouth.

I WILL say, if in the act of committing a crime someone loses THEIR LIFE, YOU SHOULD LOOSE YOURS.

Is THAT plain enough for you?

If we did this EVERY time it would send a VERY LEAR message and a STRONG deterrent to those thinking about committing crimes.

The "swinging door" has GOT TO STOP!

If you care so much about what happens to them, how many have YOU taken on parole into YOUR HOUSE?

Or are you just another "all mouth and no action" type?

The OP & many others notice how often the killers have long serious, criminal records. At the same time, the U.S. supposedly has the highest incarceration rate in the world. We clearly keep the wrong people in prison, have incompetent parole boards, and other related big problems.
If they had not committed crimes serious enough to be locked up for life, then why do you wonder that they were not locked up?

Maybe I missed the part where they were six-time killers. Do you happen to have a link?

The 3 strikes and out is a good way to fill prisons with people who do not belong there.

Are you saying that a person who owns a gun should be locked up for life if he is caught 3 times?

Actually they push for no sentencing at all for carrying a gun.

"Neither of these brothers was previously charged with murder. "

"he is a six-time weapon offender who was jailed in 2013 for six years for another gun crime but released on parole in February."

Then WHY were they carrying guns?

If the situation arose do you think they wouldn't hesitate to use them?
