EU demands Apple pay Ireland up to 13 billion euros in tax | Reuters

As the Irish are finding out and the Brits already know, the EU is less about Europe and more about a totalitarian union.

We're headed in the same direction except the dismantling of the middle class to pay for the lazy through taxation is the liberal progressive solution in the USA.

What exactly is the dismantling of the middle class expected or intended to solve???

I can't even tell if I agree with you or not. I just can't make sense of your gibberish.

I find it more interesting that these outspoken Progressive corporate leaders from Google, Apple, Facebook are choosing to avoid American corporate taxes by moving corporate jobs to Europe. Rather than pay their "fair share" in higher corporate American taxes to fiscally support the Progressive policies these corporate leaders claim they support these guys move corporate operations, leave the USA, to tax havens like Ireland. Hypocritical Liberals. No surprise.

Apple must pay up to $14.5 billion in back taxes to Ireland, the European Union ruled Tuesday after the bloc's anti-trust arm concluded that the technology firm was given illegal tax benefits over two decades. Member states cannot give tax benefits to selected companies — this is illegal under EU state aid rules,” said EU Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager.

Vestager said a three-year investigation found Ireland granted such lavish tax breaks to Apple over many years. She said multinational’s effective corporate tax rate on its European profits dropped from 1% in 2003 to a mere 0.0005% in 2014.

The European island offers the lure of minimal regulation and significantly lower corporate tax rates (12.5% vs. 35% in the U.S.), a major reason why top U.S. tech companies — including Apple, Google, Amazon, Facebook, Yahoo, Microsoft, Twitter and eBay — have corporate facilities in Ireland, where they employ thousands.

So, do they owe Ireland at a much different rate than they were promised to get them there, like a bait & switch? Or do they owe the EU, as they are the one making the ruling they get the tax?

Fees for services rendered and requested is the only moral system, otherwise "taxes" are just racketeering, theft, and extortion...

We all know the truth, the priority list for the Democrat Party is:
1. The party
2. The extremely wealthy
3. The poor
4. The middle class

The Republicans:
1. The party
2. Corporations
3. The middle class
4. The poor

I like the Republican priority list more than the Democrats.
