I remember a time in history when all American citizens required was the freedom to live their lives in freedom. When did we start to require our government to be our nanny.

Government can in no way make anyone equal to anyone else... ever.
It was the intention of government to treat all individuals equally. Not put a boot on someone throat and demand they be as equal as the lowest denominator.
The only way to have income equality is to the Holy State confiscate everything from its slaves and then give everyone only the smallest amount of rations necessary for them to serve the Holy State. Oh yeah, we are already on our way there...

And there's even less reason to believe that different groups with even more genetic differences are identical and equal either or fully compatible and interchangible, nor should they and can they be made equal and identical. That's largely up to natural selection and evolution.
In fact, when you scientifically measure and test different groups you find differences. For example, one group has an average IQ of 80, another 100, another 105 and a subgroup 110, all living in the same environment.
You have got to be kidding me. People should get incomes based on what they contribute to society.
