Since that attitude is coming from non Nevadans I will give them all the credit due them. It's not so hard for us in the North Nevada region, to understand the Montana mentallity. This is a rugged and individualist area. Farmers, ranchers and miners. We still have pretty strong representation of these groups in the state legislature as well. I only wish Mills Lane would have run against Reid. His ambitions led him to the Supreme Court though. The wild popularity of a man such as Lane speaks volumes to the TRUE attitude of this state.
Doesn't Reid kind of remind you of Bob Stupak?

Lol, Harry should just consider a nice retirement in DC. Someplace he can just stare out a window at the Capitol Dome and remember bygone days. Or maybe he can buy a ranch in Montana ( or here in N NV) and try to keep his fences up , his cattle in, and water flowin' to his spread.

EXCELLENT - BOTH QUOTES

The Bush Administration inspired and empowered the stupid amongst us.

They are now out of official power - and are resentful, angry and disgruntled.

With Bush gone, they have no one to emulate.

They find it difficult, if not impossible, to emulate the new President.

Some people have a strong need to emulate a leader.

Some peoples' needs are not being met by the new President.

Maybe people having a strong need to emulate, should sublimate that need with the personal responsibility that goes with study.

A suggestion: That no one in the military rise to the equivalent of Sergeant or higher without first memorizing Article 1 and 2 of the U.S. Constitution - and that no High School diploma be issued to anyone who fails to memorize at least these two articles of the Constitution.

I'm no great Harry Reid fan, but he won his last election with 61% of the vote. I doubt he has trouble in 2010.

A few states HAVE declined the "stimulus" money: The money is REQUIRED to be spent, which means the projects mandated by it will DEPEND on it. What happens when the money runs out and those projects have become entrenched, and still need to be paid for? Now you're more in the hole than when you started!! Then what are you going to do -- rob the taxpayers again to pass out more money to the states, to enlarge their budgets yet again with money taken out of their own people's pockets?? none of this is free money; you and I and our children will have to repay it -- about $3 down the road for every $1 spent today.

Essentially, all it does is encourage states to spend beyond their means (which most already do well enough without federal encouragement). A few are smart enough to see where that leads and decline to play. But most just want to "get ours" today, and pretend that tomorrow's comeuppance will never arrive.

Remember, you have relinquished all relations with the USA.

The government of Montana would have to increase it's "governance" to take care of all things your population will require: education, medical, colleges, any infrastructure, your own constitution, laws, religious differences, etc.

I think it would be an interesting experiment, I'd like to see it.
We already have our own Constitution, and it is a quite good one. we already have our own schools, colleges, hospitals, etc. To take care of any other problems, we will simply do what other countries do, apply for Foreign Aid from the United States of America.
Religious differences are a non-issue. Laws, we have too many of now, we can clean house and get rid of a bunch. Law enforcement wouldn't change, except we wouldn't have to be concerned about the Feds coming in and messing things up anymore. We already have our own Army and Air Force. Heck, we could "nationalize" the missile silos, and have our own nuclear deterrent! The tourist industry wouldn't change much, excpet that the tourists would perhaps need a passport and a Visa to enter and leave the State. We could convert from the Income Tax to a 4% sales tax so the tourists would pay their "fair" share.
"The Republic Of Montana", with 56 "states". Yeah, I like it!
