In my personal experience..........Trying to pay for anything, in the US with Canadian currency is totally a waste of time..........I get it that for some very limited situations, with in a few miles of the International border....individual retail stores may offer a " Canadian money at par " deal to attract business. But that is what it is....a short term gimmick.
Having had a Canadian 25 cent coin thrown in my face, at a Georgia gas station by the cashier when I accidentally included it in payment for a coffee, was enough to make me remember it, from 10 years ago.

I may have mentioned this before on another thread, but when I was driving a London taxi years ago, I picked up a nice old guy who was on vacation from Louisiana.
As I dropped him off at a theatre in Charing Cross Road, I jokingly said, "Sir, I don't take Confederate money"
He said, "If things had gone right at Gettysburg, you'd be taking it now."
No. I would be okay with the use of the Canadian dollar in Minnesota. However, keep the U.S. dollar the official currency on Minnesota and all 50 states within the USA.
In Grand Forks North Dakota where I live we see a lot of Canadian shoppers from the Winnipeg area and also from the Mennonite communities in southern Manitoba.
In times of near parity, which a few years ago it was, yes at times smaller more local businesses will accept Canadian money at par. But most of the time you do have to get money exchanged and pay in American currency. I do have a handful of canadian coins however saved over the years as pennies in particular are inter-mixed.
I lived outside the country for nearly 20 years and most of my best friends were Canadians. I realized quickly that I, a Minnesotan, have a lot more in common with a guy from Toronto, Vancouver or Edmonton, than I do with a guy from Mississippi, SoCal or the Northeast. Pretty much the exact same accent too, with the main difference being Canadians say "eh" & Minnesotans say "ya know".
