If you told an teenager that they had to have a valid id to buy a video game that was not rated as at least teen, you would be fired from the store.
Once they turn legal age they will have that ID. This is not an imposition; people have years before the elections. If people, like the teenager, want anything bad enough; they will get it. Government does not have to give you everything if you don't want it or are not willing to go that extra mile.

No you do not have years before the election. The id must be present on election day. There is a difference. Oh that teenager likely isn't caring around a legally acceptable form of id(if he is under driving age).

Simple, don't wait until right before the election.

oh please
driving age (usually around 16 is also well under the voting age (now 18, was(back before 1970) 21)
the teenager probably has 2 to 4 Id's
fact a male 18yr old teen HAS to register for selected service as a male once you turn 18 (which is NOW the voting age)...that includes immigrants whether documented or undocumented

I didn't need an Id to register, so what does that have to do with anything.
fact..97% of the citizens over 18 had some form of picture id..the other 3% are too lazy to actually go out and get one
yet what we will get from you is another sob story
I would like to know there your "facts" come from and why do you assume that they are too lazy to get one. The reasons why you might not have an id relate to it being too expensive to replace or too difficult to replace in a timely manner.
In Chicago you could be talking $2.00 per bus ride or $2.25 to use the el system. It could take 2-3 rides of the bus and/or train to get to DMV. Round trip you are looking at $4.00-$12.00.
Now there are passes that save money by giving unlimited rides for a time period, but the passes cost much more(i.e. the 30 day pass costs $100($55 if disabled or elderly) and the cheapest pass is $10 for the 1 day pass(and this one is more for tourists). Note these passes can only be purchased online(requires a credit card and time for it to arrive), at an el station, downtown(at the CTA offices) or an limited number of stores...all of which could require a higher priced trip. There is also a card you can load and gives a .25 cent transfer(i.e. converting that $12.00 round trip into $4.50), but it again the card has a $5.00 fee attached for a new card and is usually mailed(time).
So the assuming your ventra card has not been stolen(with your wallet and ID) or lost is $4.50 for a three bus rides(CTA/PACE) to get to the DMV. More if you live in the burbs and need to use Metra to change towns.
Also rural areas and the burbs lack public transit.
In IL the only free ids are those that are stolen(and requires a police report...another trip)-note stolen, not lost. A person who is homeless(most low income people are not homeless) or a person who is over 65. Freemrkt likely fits none of those.
Otherwise it is $20.00 and expires in 5 years. The birth certificate in my state is $15.00(and $4.00 for each copy of the original) and that is before any fees associated with the method of payment or shipment.
Not free at all. Oh non-Profits can do many things, but help pay people's fees isn't one of them.
As for the disabled or Elderly. If you are using public transit you need to be able to walk a few blocks and not all CTA rail stations are handicapped accessible.
its always something
