For example, if I were to offer you a 10,000 bet that we have had a secret treaty with the Sauds for many decades where they work with us on economic issues (oil) and we promise to protect them from the Iraqs & Irans.....would you take it?
Unlike something like NATO, there are places around the world where such deals wouldn't be highly popular and so they are kept on the "down-low" and I think many of these are why we get drug into stuff around the globe.
Its not a build up.Its MODERNIZING and UPGRADING old crappy material. Do you not remember soldiers parents sending them flak jackets in Iraq bc most of the humvees weren't armored right? My point exactly.
The Military budget has been cut to the lowest level in many decades, and it has gotten to the point where "bone yard" planes are being refurbished and put back into service in order to meet the military's needs.
It has also been cut to the point that military experts are saying we could not fight a war on more than one front, if we had to.
Trump has vowed to restore the military. This isn't a "build up." It is restoration, and it is urgently needed.
But I realize you won't agree, because you are an extreme Leftist. It is people of your ilk that have put us in the weak position we are now in.
My freedom and security depend on a strong military. I resent people like you who would sell us out and give our country over to our enemies.
The US already spends more on military than the next 7 nations combined! That's now, the "lowest level in decades".
How excessive does the military budget need to be? If the US military really can't be effective without near-endless spending, while every other country manages on a small fraction of that amount, then there's something seriously wrong.
...or maybe this is the case because the US actively involves itself constantly into other countries' affairs rather than staying true to the core purpose of defense: protecting our borders.
The US is in a very geographically advantageous location. Protecting US soil would not be a problem, and at afar lower cost.
Plus, the southern border might actually be protected and enforced for a change rather than being open for illegals to prance right over.
I think most of us would love to be able to cut military spending but take a look around!!! The reality is we live in a very dangerous world. The Middle East is a total cluster and Russia and China are getting more aggressive by the day. Would it really be prudent and in our best interest to cut back? Personally, I feel that is a dangerous position.
Other countries are managing just fine with a much smaller defense budget.
No one's saying to completely eliminate the military.
Just to get out of other countries (which US presence only exacerbates their issues with) and focus solely on protecting US borders.
We have to slash veteran benefits and cut the military budget in order to increase welfare for the people who demand welfare and make a life of living off of government handouts never trying to do better for themselves who pump out 4...5..7 babies from baby daddies or is a baby daddy, and we need the extra funds to house those kids in prison once they grow up and become criminals.We also need to be able to pay the illegal immigrants benefits of healthcare, food supliments, and housing when they come over to steal American jobs from ironically many democratic party voters who cry their wages have decreased.
This is the priority of the democratic party elite.

To the OP: how is Trump going to build the military as he claims? There is opposition in congress for major increase in military spending. With a few exceptions, most reps would not approve another trillion...so maybe Donald will use his personal money, or build casinos.
It wasn't Irans current government that the money came from. It was the regime before that...
So every four years anyone that owes the US government money is free to consider themselves no longer liable for that debt? What about congressional elections in off years? So maybe every two years the US government no longer can collect on any debt since that was owed to the previous government?
Please help me understand your logic here.
