Yes, Jefferson was a slaveholder who authored a sodomy law. Fortunately we have come further in recognizing that unalienable rights are not just for white male property owners.

Unfortunately we have at the same time attacked the natural rights of all Americans.

I can accept that. But there would likely be unintended consequences-less marriage, serial dating and more stds, no one knows who the father is, fatherless children (more crime and violence some say), mothers and families with children at an economic disadvantage etc. I'm sure one could argue there would be some positive consequences to be fair.

In a nutshell, I think libertarianism is a philosophy that doesn't fully take into account nature, human nature and history.

Lots of theory being spouted.
But what REALLY gets Libertarians worked up is pot and gay marriage.

What really gets you worked up? The iron fist of authoritarianism? The unquestioned primacy of the state?

Actually those are the two things that get social conservatives worked up about libertarianism.

I can respect that. At least that has an indirect effect on you. Pot and marriage does not.

Many libertarians recognize you cannot have a welfare state and open borders. I would add you can not be the policeman of the world and have open borders either.

People that wish to tax me for trading with my Chinese friends are a bit annoying.

I'd argue immigration, foreign workers and trade have a direct and profound effect on me as do to a lessor extgent tax-payer support benefits for married, pot probably has an indirect effect. I don't really care about decriminalizing/legalizing pot and am supportive of medicinal marijuana.
