Maybe it's just me, but methinks that if a student in her district wore a neo nazi or white supremacy t shirt to school, that free speech would go right out the window.
A Native American high school student in California says a teacher lowered her and a friend's participation grades after they refused to stand up for the Pledge of Allegiance.
Leilani Thomas has been choosing not to stand during the Pledge of Allegiance since the second grade -- way before San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick started doing the same during performances of the national anthem at games, ABC affiliate KXTV in Sacramento reported.
Thomas explained that she is Native American and that she has been sitting out the Pledge of Allegiance as a peaceful protest to the way Native Americans have been historically treated in the U.S.
Yeah, pretty much. Free speech is fine if you're anti-America or complaining about America, but as soon as a kid shows up with a Pro 2A shirt, then they are forced to go home and change or be suspended. So much for free speech

Good lesson in real life... Be self employed, or do things you may not want to do.
The teacher exercised her free speech by lowering their grades....
Free speech doesn't come without consequences. If you don't consent, change classes or homeschool

I'm honestly surprised schools still have students say the pledge. I thought it had died off some time ago. Oh well, no better time to bury it.
Progressive Austin TX. the kids in elementary school say it and the Texas Pledge every morning. Jr. high and High school just the National Anthem is played right before the bell rings in the morning.

Excuse me but grades are given based on their academic performance, not on the pledge of allegiance. Seriously people, get a grip.
