It's sad that that is all you can see. I'd bet if we sat down over a cup of coffee (or whatever you want to drink), and talked about anything other than politics, you'd see that we're probably not that much different after all.
The only thing that could unite someone on the far right and someone on the far left, maybe, is a true alien invasion.
why is it that people want to balkanize the USA? breaking up the country, and then forming a bunch of loose confederations is not the answer. we do have problems in this country, but breaking up the country is not going to solve them, in fact it will magnify them.
it would be much better to go back to the federal government following the constitution, and letting the states solve their own problems.

Why is the Fed in the states? Only 2 reasons. States are corrupt and money. What I mean by corrupt is unruly some governor wants to be king -and doesn't want to follow anyone! Even happens now... and some states just do not have adequate resources
